Photographer's Note
Taken today at my fathers place. I'm building a cabin here together with my wife, and more remote than this is hard to find :)
On good and bad of course... It's so beautiful inside this fjord, mountains shooting up like teeth straight up and down again in the fjord, no roads but a ferry to get here. This ferry has been cut down year after year, making it hard for my family to run a business here. Many german tourists come here for fishing, but with less and less boats to get here it's creating a pressure on us together with the harsh way of life being so isolated and the population going down. My father together with a few families are the only one left now...

I like this shot. It is almost a shot out the Lord of the Rings. Very dark and scary. I like the extra contrast. You played well with the light. Well seen.

Gorgeous light. The dark water at the front of the frame sets off the bright area further in. Stunning looking place, very well captured.

This is just amazing. The play of light and shadow, mountains and water...a wonderful composition of all these elements. Is this color? To me it looks like B&W. Anyway, a wonderful shot. I'd love to have such a view from my place...great way to relax.
Congrats on the cabin! Does that mean that your next holiday will be spent here as opposed to SEA? :-)

A wonderfully evocative picture. The shadows and half light are perfectly handled. I wonder how much contrast adjustment you put in? Whatever, I enjoy the slant of light that stretches through the clouds so faintly and the tiny boat in isolation. The sense of scale is subtlely conveyed.

Well perhaps the economic loss will help preserve the place, although it really not my place to say. As far as the picture, awesome pretty much sums it up.

Superbe photo dans sa construction et son rendu.
Ce que j'aime par dessus tout c'est le constraste de la partie de gauche, le choix du N&B est un très bon choix pour cette scène.

a very sad story you are telling us Terje! I hope your family and neighbours succeed in their enterprise to save this fjord from desolation. I have been long ago to Norway ( my best friend at school was norvegian, Dag-Inge Rasmussen his name was and still is I guess) and I loved every bit of it. Long walks to go the log cabin ( hutte) between trondheim and up north in the forests. My souvenirs of Norway, namely Trondheim, Oslo, Bodo are still vivid in my memory and the story you told us brought it all back... some 25 years ago;-) thanks Terje for bringing it back innocently with your note;-) Ha Nostalgia!

What a stunnig picture, the light is really beautiful! It's almost B&W!
Sad story however. I hope that facilities will continue to be there!

Breathtaking lanscape. The contrast between light and shadows is just great. You can almost hear the thunder rumbling behind those majestic mountains. Thanks for sharing this image.

The drastic and always changing weather conditions in the fjords are amazing and perfect object for photography. I was there couple of times, you are the lucky one that can live there ;-)
Very good shot, perfect light and the B&W gives me the feeling which I had when I read old books about your beautiful country...

This picture has a quality you usually see only in top nature photographer. Taken with a simple P&S camera, it's by far one of the most impressive pictures I've seen here. Adding the note to the picture, giving it a new meaning, more than a mare nature picture. Well done!!!!

great picture. Is it color or is it black and white? I think it could be even more impressive as a black and white.

It is quite an amazing photo, with the sun filtering down between the clouds on these beautiful mountains. Such a spectacular setting, but I'm sure also isolated and remote.

Oh Really I'm having no words to explain, what this image is reflecting to me.
1- It's calling me to come and visit me , have your warm and gentle view on me
2- It's telling me about the limitations and constraints which are making me unable to go
Anyways a very very heart touching and eye catching picture
very very well done :)

Hi Terje, A very fine photo showing spectacular Fjord scenery. The composition with a series of diagonals and the sun on the lake has tremendous impact. TFS. Murray.
PS Norway has some famous quartz which i was looking for when your image arose.

what a delightful photo - so glad its featured on TE home page at the moment. I just love the B+W imagery, albeit the image seems to be colour ! And what a sad story you tell in in your note in 2004 - cant help wondering how the story has developed !
