About Poland. Page Twelve: About Old Synagogue
Remuh Synagogue
This is the first founded and the smallest synagogue in Kazimierz, a Jewish quarter in Krakow. It was built in1553.
After the WWII the synagogue was completely reconstructed in1957. It is still a cultural place of the Jewish people. It is visited by Jews from all around the world. The Remu'h Synagogue and Cemetery is still used by Krakow's surviving Jews.
Beside the synagogue there is a unique old cemetery founded in the year 1533 with Renaissance and Baroque tombstones from the16th, 17th and 18th centuries. It is the only Renaissance Jewish cemetery stayed intact in all of Europe.
With this photo Im back to my Polish series. Ill return to Portugal later.

Hi J.
The composition with the close up and the blur in the background is lovely.
Maybe this time a B&W version?

Dajesz mało zdjęć bez ludzi... Tu mamy ciekawą perspektywę i DOF. Ostrość taka jak trzeba, kolory stonowane. Kompozycja na duży plus. No i temat oraz notka - na poziomie. Pozdrawiam.

Duzo lepsze,
Super.

I wonder what these little lights mean... Nice graphic work Jerzy. Your focus point is crucial here. It let us study the element you are going to repeat in detail and then imagine the rest. Much to learn from you here. A regular guy like myself probably would capture this with a narrower aperture thus showing the entire structure in focus. You, on the other hand, had a very clever and sensitive approach. If everything is going to repeat, what's the point of having it clearly focused? A great photo! Love the color toning...

Witaj Jurek,

Interesting picture.
The history behind these walls and the graphism of the photo looks really good. Sure, this photo belongs to TE.

Hi Jerzy,
was going to dive into your archives then saw this. This has wonderful tones here, with the shallow dof focusing on a small area and then shooting off into the stars created by the blur of the lights. Are you trying to be symbolic here?
Regards,
Mark.
Oh well off to the archives.

Your excitement and your curiosity travels with you wherever you go, Jerzy.
But your soul is definitively in your country, enchanted in those stones, and bricks, and faces.
Splendid photography on the world class level.
My deep bow for you, my friend.

A dark, mysterious and atmospheric image Jerzy, with a superb use of shallow depth of field.
The many small lights have had a great impact on the effectiveness of the image, indeed the quality of light and your control over it are one of your trademarks, I think. I'd be interested to know the meaning of these lights, I've never seen anything like that before.
Outstanding.
Cheers,
Ben

Hello Jerzy,
A very graphical composition with all this blurred lights.
The Pov is perfect and the light of course is good.
I like the fact that all the lights seem to converge to the same point on the left top of the composition.

No pieknie,
pozdrawiam,

Interesting, Jerzy, I've been in Germany this weekend and visited the oldest sinagogue in Europe, in Worms, and now you show the oldest one in Krakov... Deep mysterious atmosphere here, and simply beautiful, the photo which grows on the viewer. The Hebrew script adds so much, it is a pity my Hebrew is not that good to get the meaning... Anyway, it is fantastic how the letters work well with the myriad of lights...

I've been meaning to comment on this amazing shot earlier, Jerzy. There is ample beauty here; not only beauty but also depth, a depth of meaning and symbolism... the fading lights as they become softer and softer recall both the horrors lived by and the incredible perseverance of the survivors of the Holocaust. A very moving tribute, very important and gorgeously executed work this is.

Hello Jerzy,
This absolutely wonderful, with loads of simbolism on it. Love the diagonals of light and the rusted letters on the wall.
The light management is terrific giving your photo a tremendous ambiance.

Well Jerzy I don't stop by your gallery enough to see what you are up to as of late. This photo is a real creative piece of work. Esp to see how the lights blur into the upper left frame signifys to me how the many Jewish prayers for the dead are taken up to heaven on their behalf. A very insirational photo indeed...thanks for sharing!
