Photographer's Note
About Poland. Page One.
About the Bench
It all started here, in Drohiczyn.
Few years ago I bought a wooden house near river Bug. My first trip was to Drohiczyn, few kilometers from my place. A lovely, quiet, forgotten town on the cliff of the river Bug.
It all started here - Drohiczyn opened up for me that unknown region of Podlasie where so many cultures mixed and blended together.
Where so many stories were told.
Where I met so many nice people who helped me fall in love with the country.
------------------------------------------------
About Poland. My new series which will last for a month or so, I think.
You'll meet different places I visited over the last year or so.
Some of the pictures will be postcardish (JG, promise to warn me, please, if I get too close to the line :-)).
Some will not fit my main streamline.
Some might be really strange.
My goal is to take you by the hand and show you the beauty of this land.
------------------------------------------------
For the first installment I decided to post some "classical" bantonbuju work as I find Drohiczyn and its people completely responsible for my passion for the "real life" photography. I was so much in love with these people from the very first moment I saw them sitting like that. A chat with all of them was a cherry on the cake.

Wspamiały zbiorowy portret kobiet z dwoma facetami w tle. Takie są niestety proporcje w pewnym wieku. Mocna perspektywa i jak zwykle opis koresponduje ze zdjęciem. Pozdrawiamn.

Hi Jerzy,
that's really a great shot. Nice choice of DOF with the first lady in a mgnificent sharpness.
Atmosphere, colours and POV are really fine.
Well done.

Fajna laweczka, moglbys brak kazdą z tych osob do osobnego portretu. Glebia ostrosci koncentruje się tylko na pierwszej, ale reszta jest na tyle wyraźna, że po chwili i tam oko błądzi.
No, to pooglądamy całą serię :)
Pozdrawiam

Doskonala ekspresja!!!
pozdrawiam,

Man,that is some bench, J. What I would call a DEEP bench... Your camera does not disturn them but simply records them in comfort and peace, like a whisper...

ps Tell me about the D200 - this will suprise me but for what I do (fast moving scenes in an urban environment. The Eos 5D for all its high iso virtues is deathly SLOOOOW, I already noticed that more than a yeat ago when I first wrote a report abut it. Remember? Now it is a problem. I played with Shailendra'S D200 and it is FAST, man, and very well built, logical layout and...waterproof (very important for me also). When you have a minute...

Witaj Jurek,
I na coś takiego własnie czekałem. Kompozycja, kolor i ostrość planów - to wszystko jak u Ciebie, solidnie poukładane. Osobiście dostrzegam też przekaz w którym pokazujesz wieczna sztafetę...
Pozdrawiam,
J.

Beautiful bench indeed, but an intimist photo! I like the perfect alignment, the expression of the woman in the front and the little girl, lost in the middle of this fine lot.

What a nice group of the older generation. Specially the ladies make me smile. I like their observation activity. The second lady from the right is my favorite. She looks like a strong character. Good for a film maybe.
Nice image,

Very beautiful Smolarek... I mean, Jerzy! ;) This is a real winner and your skills here really made this game. The first half of the photo was completely controlled by you making Poland a fair contender. I am looking for the rest of the campaign. I am sure you will achieve a wonderful goal and in the end Poland will reach a higher level. The bench is really important here and, as always, not only the ones on starting formation do the job. I like the way you distributed the players here, with a clear focus on the right wing. She is really the talented striker here. I love this one.
PS. This critique has nothing to do with a tragedy that happened today in a Polish football field...:)

Hello Jerzy! I enjoy how the photo recedes in focus here, implying that even more people, perhaps, are just beyond the frame. It works very well, and I love the expressions on their faces.

A fine contribute to these old people as source of inspiration of your photography, nicely taken with shorter DOF on the converging perspective starting by the sharp potrait of the lady with a scarf and a nice smile on top right corner to discover each with their own expression while mismerizing around and telling their tales, a fine streetshot.

Hello Jerzy,
Typical scene from here in Portugal too! With all this elder persons sitting and chatting or simply watching what going on around them.
I like the POV for this one showing us their different moods and expressions.
Cheers.

As far away from being postcardish as humanly possible.
Yet another wonderful study of human faces.
And if I say 'study' I really mean 'study'. One can spend quite a while just to learn about those faces, trying to read the past from them.
Excellently built and presented to us in flawless manner.
You really control the world around you, Jerzy!
You really do.
Thanks pal, for mentioning my humble (even if somewhat yappy) persona.
JG.

Hello Jerzy. About the Bench: a marvelous picture and a good text in addition. On the banks usually the old people with the sticks sit. From their place they regard the passing people. They look also for maintenance. In the faces one can read as in a book. Interesting also the faces of the two women right in the picture. Very beautifully. It makes fun to regard the photo. Greeting, Wolfgang.
