Photographer's Note

Taking photos at the blue hour is a good way to deal with bad weather on your trip. I remember my trip to Berlin in 2001. It was my first trip with a newly purchased Canon camera (pre-digital yet). The weather was rubbish, but I came back from that trip with many good photos taken by night. During my recent holidays on Madeira, on four out of six evenings I was taking blue hour photos. Unless it rains, the blue hour offers a chance to be independent from the cloudy dull sky.

In this photo you can see a waterfront promenade in Funchal, the main town on Madeira. The tower marks the Funchal Cathedral (Sé Catedral do Funchal). Church interiors are also a good option for the bad weather, unless they are under renovation like it was the case for the Funchal Cathedral.
