Photographer's Note
Due to its low altitudes, Porto Santo is exposed to the wind from all sides.
To profit from this feature, wooden-sail with rotational foundations, as you can observe, windmills were built on the island.
The first windmill dated 1794, was Porto Santo’s most emblematic work of the 18th century.
Windmills were used to grind cereals to make bread.
Some of them are still active.

Lovely shot. I like how you framed it to include the mountain in the background. It provides a wonderful balance in the image.

Hi Rui,
The subject is very good, so are the colors, the exposure and the sharpness.
But, in my opinion, it lacks some balance.
I would shoot the windmill from a longer distance and more to the left. Of course this is my opinion.
Nevertheless, Seeing this photo, sure I would like to visit Porto Santo!

Hi Rui,
I thought at first it was a big clothes line or a radio antena ... until I read your note. I wonder if these windmills can also be use to produce electricity. Lovely contrasting colors to make your subject standout. Well composed ... good work! tfs

Hello Rui,
Au premier coup d’œil, cela fait un peu penser à une antenne parabolique !
Sujet très intéressant et excellente netteté de l’image !
Bon week-end Rui,
Robert

Hi Rui,
An excellent shot. I really like that the windmill dominates the picture. Superb sharpness and a perfect choice to shoot this bright subject against the light.
Cheers,
Ulf
