Photographer's Note

Aveiro was a great city to visit. The canals reminded me of Bruges but the warm atmosphere is genuine Portuguese. Attractive architecture, kind people, great food as everywhere in Portugal...a lovely day there!

Here are some info about this city:

- Located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean, Aveiro is an industrial city with an important seaport. The city of Aveiro is also the capital of the District of Aveiro, and the largest city in the Baixo Vouga intermunicipal community subregion.

- The University of Aveiro is considered as one of the best of Portugal and 354th best university in the World.

- Aveiro is also known as "The Portuguese Venice", due to its system of canals and boats similar to the Italian city of Venice.

- The people's quality of life is high. The unemployment rate is very low (about 5%).

Hello Daniel,
It's a nice photo where the bright boat makes a fine foreground. Technically it's an excellent shot, as always. For my present series of pictures from Portugal in 1984 I read the diary I kept during that journey. I noted with some surprise that Aveiro didn't impress me particularly. I have a photo of a street which you once showed here, similar to this one, and the difference was amazing. The houses looked so decayed and poor in 1984. The city must have received a huge facelift.

The boat makes a colourful focal point and contrasts nicely with the pastel tones of the background architecture. Agreeable lights and colours and very good sharpness.

Hi Daniel,lovely postcard from this village that in effect reminds a bit Bruges,also if the architechtures of houses are different. Perfect shot,colorful,bright and sharp,i like it! J'aime beaucoup le point de vue très bas. Comme si tu étais sur une barque prête à l'abordage. Beau bateau qui pousse le regard vers la gauche.

Red and yellow boat gave an excellent warm color to the canal scenery, a typical neighborhood in Aveiro.
Well placed it within the frame, fine clarity and good sense of depth on a diagonal POV.
