The 'Lord Byron', a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

Whilst walking leisurely through the back streets of Sintra in Portugal, I came across this café/bar called 'Lord Byron' Aside from the name I was attracted by the 'flatiron' architecture and the pastel toned paintwork.

Back home, a little research on Google revealed that after visiting Lisbon in his Grand Tour of Europe in 1809, Byron spent some considerable time in Sintra, then known as Cintra. He became greatly enamoured of the place. So much so that he wrote about it in his semi-autobiographical poem 'Childe Harolde's Pilgrimage', describing 'Cintra's glorious Eden'.

you couldn't quite fit the entire building in, but almost :)
I didn't go walking around here at all, so i'll be happy to view your shots. so this is a Flat Iron construction i guess, as you mentioned in your note. I wonder if people live upstairs now, i would think yes. charming little spot, love the peach/pink

I was curious about the connection but your notes explain it all!

You have chosen a fine viewpoint from which to capture this very unusual building,.
It is surprising both in shape and colours but, wow, if you want to attract attention, this is how to do it!

Blizzarding here at the moment. No buses and the strong wind keeps covering the tracks as soon as they are exposed. We were supposed to be going to Manchester tomorrow to see the Sleeping Beauty ballet but I'm slowly thinking it may not happen!

Quel beau coin de rue avec une belle maison qui forme un triangle qui suit les lignes de la rue. Une post production qui ne marche pas vraiment et un bout de toi qui a malheureusement disparu.

What a lovely little flatiron building and the café looks so charming with its many decorations and ornaments around the entrance. The soft light is fine too and goes well together with the colours of the walls.

A neat picture of this beautiful triangle shaped building, painted pink and decorated with an Azulejos above the shop entrance. Chosen well the POV, Stephen, managed well with the shaded area.
