Photographer's Note

Constructed between 1648 and 1652 under the mandate of S. Teodósio, name of principe inheriting, son of D. João IV that it ordered it to build, this Fort vulgarly is known by Fort of the Horse, due to denomination of the place where if it finds, in the extreme West of the bay of Sesimbra. Blockhouse that to provide the defense with the maritime edge, very was damaged by terramoto of 1755, but it still met furnished with artillery and provided aquando of the First French Invasion, in it I begin of Séc. XIX, having been abandoned only in 1822. Despite this abandonment, the strategical importance of the Fort of S. Teodósio, took the one that the same still was used in the fights between D. Pedro and D. Miguel.
