Photographer's Note

Sesimbra’s coast has a unique diversity of landscapes, from which come some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. On its western coast, the territory is trimmed by Lagoa de Albufeira, a lagoon frequently visited by windsurf and kitesurf athletes. A little further south, next to Aldeia do Meco, there is the Moinho de Baixo beach, characterized by the wide extension of its sands. Travelling further along the coast, you will arrive at Rio da Prata, one of the first naturist beaches of the country, and, soon after, you will encounter Bicas beach, the place of choice of local surf-lovers. From that point on, the cliffs become higher and steeper, fostering small inlets, such as Foz and Lagosteiros, beaches that will impress you by their beauty and geological relevance. As you “turn around” Cabo Espichel, the south coast will reveal some small remote inlets, surrounded in mystery and pirate tales. Their exceptional geographical localization gives them a very unique singularity, translated into the beauty and immenseness of the landscape. Just before arriving at Sesimbra, a rock formation shaped as a horse’s head, marks one of the most beautiful beaches in the region – the Ribeiro do Cavalo. The access to this paradise can be made by boat or on foot, through a path on the hillside, for which you will have to be physically fit and familiar with the area. The effort needed for the walk is well compensated as soon as you reach the sand. If you follow the coast line, you will arrive at the Sesimbra bay, with its calm sea, where nautical and leisure activities go hand in hand with traditional fishing. To the west, the Praia do Ouro beach and, to East, the California beach are divided by the Santiago’s Fortress, a 17th century fort, which impressively demarcates the sandbank, the bay, and the village. Over the past few years, the Ouro and the California beaches, as well as the Moinho de Baixo beach, at Meco, have been awarded with the Blue Flag, an award that recognizes the best European beaches for their environmental quality and safety conditions, as well as for their support equipments and also for the promotion of environmental awareness activities.

The point of view is sending my eyes toward the horizon which is giving depth to the composition. It is well divided, the sky, the sea and the beach. The gradual tobacco filter is giving nice colors to the sky and the sea. Have a nice day.

Well composed, beautiful color contrast and an impressive seascapes! The sea compared with evening sun and the cloud dyed to the evening sun on the boundary of the horizon is very beautiful. And, blue of seawater in the vicinity of coast and stone of shore draw out a good harmony for the whole in the point of entire total color balance, I think.

Olá Gonçalo. Desde que fui ao Castelo dos Mouros que fiquei com a ideia que este tipo de fotos (com o sol de frente) é onde o filtro tabaco faz melhores efeitos e esta aqui vem provar-me isso mesmo. Espectacular o efeito de fogo, boas cores e composição excelente da baía de Sesimbra. Belo trabalho.

Olá Gonçalo,
una foto muy vistosa, sobre todo por las tonalidades que el filtro tabaco ha creado sobre las nubes.
Me gusta la profundidad de la imagen y la perspectiva que nos da la diagonal de la playa, que se lleva nuestros ojos muy lejos, hacia las siluetas oscuras de la costa.
La luz de la puesta de sol es muy agradable, y en la composición has captado una gran belleza.
