Photographer's Note
Faial is a Portuguese island of the Central Group of the Azores.
Along with other islands in the Azores archipelago, Faial is of volcanic origin and is close to the tectonic divide between the European and North American Plates.
The island can be considered (from a geophysical perspective) the westernmost point of Europe because the two islands west of Faial, Flores and Corvo, are already on the American plate.
This is the caldera as seen from the southern rim.
And you see also a small volcano insde the caldera.

The Açores Islands are just amanzing spot, the girl at the right side give us the real scale of the Caldeira! And the compo allow to see whole of it!!
The motherland is impressive!
