Blue hour in Sesimbra, a photo from Setubal, South

Photographer's Note

Sesimbra’s coast has a unique diversity of landscapes, from which come some of the most beautiful beaches in the country. On its western coast, the territory is trimmed by Lagoa de Albufeira, a lagoon frequently visited by windsurf and kitesurf athletes. A little further south, next to Aldeia do Meco, there is the Moinho de Baixo beach, characterized by the wide extension of its sands. Travelling further along the coast, you will arrive at Rio da Prata, one of the first naturist beaches of the country, and, soon after, you will encounter Bicas beach, the place of choice of local surf-lovers. From that point on, the cliffs become higher and steeper, fostering small inlets, such as Foz and Lagosteiros, beaches that will impress you by their beauty and geological relevance. As you “turn around” Cabo Espichel, the south coast will reveal some small remote inlets, surrounded in mystery and pirate tales. Their exceptional geographical localization gives them a very unique singularity, translated into the beauty and immenseness of the landscape. Just before arriving at Sesimbra, a rock formation shaped as a horse’s head, marks one of the most beautiful beaches in the region – the Ribeiro do Cavalo. The access to this paradise can be made by boat or on foot, through a path on the hillside, for which you will have to be physically fit and familiar with the area. The effort needed for the walk is well compensated as soon as you reach the sand. If you follow the coast line, you will arrive at the Sesimbra bay, with its calm sea, where nautical and leisure activities go hand in hand with traditional fishing. To the west, the Praia do Ouro beach and, to East, the California beach are divided by the Santiago’s Fortress, a 17th century fort, which impressively demarcates the sandbank, the bay, and the village. Over the past few years, the Ouro and the California beaches, as well as the Moinho de Baixo beach, at Meco, have been awarded with the Blue Flag, an award that recognizes the best European beaches for their environmental quality and safety conditions, as well as for their support equipments and also for the promotion of environmental awareness activities.

Muito bonitas as tonalidades de azul a contrastarem com as luzes da cidade. Boa profundidade com um primeiro plano bem utilizado ( mas sem grande interesse para a fotografia)! Os reflexos azuis no mar ficaram uma maravilha!

i think the 4 sec exposure time was very important, if you used a 30 sec exposure, you may have burnt out some of the lighting including the red signage.
beautiful blue hour, with a hint of arange too.
lovely views, the lighting is executed smartly.

Hi Goncalo,

The point of view is sending my eyes toward the habour and the mountains which is giving depth to the composition. Using a tripod and a shutter speed of 4 seconds is allowing me to see the lights of the city and it has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

The thing I like best about this wonderful nocturnal photo is the deep blue tones of the sea. It is so smooth and beautifully rendered. You have controlled the shutter superbly. It is a lovely image.

Hello Goncalo,

You're capturing well this scenery with houses by exellent tone, a good angle, so it's impressive in contrast between blue of sea/sky and coastline where light lights up. And, sunset sinking the horizon draws out a good effect for the whole as well as cloud that has scattered in the sky, I think.
This is a work with expression of feelings scenery.
