Sunset at Portas de Ródão (my #200 post), a photo from Castelo Branco, North

Photographer's Note

Maybe I should have chosen something more special to be my post number 200. Well, I am sorry if I disappoint you.

This river is the Tagus (Tejo in Portuguese, Tajo in Spanish), the longest of Iberian Peninsula. It flows from its source in the Central/North Eastern Spain to meet the sea in Lisboa. The place is called Portas de Ródão (Doors of Ródão), supposedly because those cliffs that make the river narrower remind the thresholds of a huge gate. If it was just a few Kms to the West it would mark the entrance of the river in Portugal, after serving as the frontier with Spain for 47 Km (30 mi).

You can see a brighter version on the WS (4 EV more).

Location (latitude, longitude): 39.6432,-7.6874

Note: in reality, the state is Portalegre and the city is Pé da Serra (or Nisa), because it was shot on the left/south bank, which is still Alentejo, but since Vila Velha de Ródão is just across the river, about 225 degrees to the right of the POV, I chose to put it there.

Olá José,
congratulations for 200 captures and a thanks for 200 shared moments, sometimes leading to longer discussion, refreshing and enjoyable. No need for something special.
The warm light, softly disappearing and still visible in a small spot of the sky , reflected on the Tejo and still giving some light to the border is lovely. It might be very close to being dark, but I think this is a real impression. There are enough contrasts in good sharpness to localise a lot and also to detect the good depth. I do enjoy this.

Hi Jose,

Congratulations for 200 .. this place has been made better by you in many many ways ... what could we hope for but an antagonistic post : ) My experience is that few people wish to take time with things so dark .. I love dark images .. the lines are great .. and the meditative darkness forms this V to this point of beautiful orange brightness .. a journey to the end of the day .. very nice my friend.

Bom dia Jose,

Parabéns pelo teu poste nº 200, realmente é muita fotografia para um ano de presença,eu tento não ser viciado no TE,pois absorve muito tempo e por isso sómente faço um poste de 15/15 dias +/-, embora faça criticas quase diárias, mas não na totalidade (20).
Em relação à foto, é para mim uma outra maneira de ver o rio Tejo numa parte do seu percurso que é muito bonita.É um "sunset" bonito mas um pouco escuro.

Parabéns pelas 200 fotos publicadas. Não é todos os dias que isso acontece. Eu ainda só vou em +/- 1330!!!
Quanto à foto, bem quanto à foto acho-a escura e não sei como é que arranjáste aquele risco escuro a contornar o topo da montanha. Pelo menos, é assim que eu o vejo no meu monitor.

Congratulations for reaching another major TE milestone! There is no contest between this and the brighter version in the WS which has lost all the lovely sunset colours.
Excellent symmetry with the beautiful reflection only broken by the triangle of shore at the bottom. There is just enough light to see detail in the rocks and trees each side of the river. Interesting to see on the map how the river narrows at this point.
Why such a small file size? I'm surprised that there is no apparent loss of quality because of it.

Hi Jose,
Let me first congrat you on #200, a milestone for the most of us.
You picked a very nice one to celabrate this number with us. The mood is beautiful, just as you play with light and shadow. Open it more and it gives you a fake looking HDR image, i like it like this.

I only make workshops if people ask me or if i think the image could use something extra, and here i thought it would. Have to admit it's a matter of taste of course. I did some painting in the image to brighten it even more than it already is. Wondering if you like this. If not i will remove it...

Parabéns pelo duocentésimo post! Que outras centenas de boas imagens o sucedam, para que possamos apreciar novas paisagens. Interessante como o rio é plácido neste trecho em que se estreita. Prefiro a versão original, com sua luz poente e sombras insuspeitadas, embora o WS do Henk não esteja mau - é artístico mas não realístico.

Parabens pelas... talvez umas 400 pelo menos, não? (só hoje são duas ;-)
Parece-me que o que falta na tua imagem é mais ou menos o que o Henk lhe fez. Agora a questão é: o WS do Henk está realístico? Está conforme o que viste no local? Desconfio que ele (sem saber) exagerou um bocadinho, mas a tua também está muito escura e falta-lhe "brilho".

Belle photo de ce lac qui est bordé de montagnes, au beau milieu cette lueur est du plus bel effet? Félicitation pour votre 200eme et au prochaines 200 autres. Votre WS est jolis aussi car il fait ressortire les réflexions sur l' eau, elles sont jolies toutes les deux celon leur genre ou selon ce que vous avez voulu faire ressortire le plus.

Ótima foto sua 200ª! De maneira alguma ela desaponta, acredito que nenhuma foto séria aqui do TE desaponta, sempre têm uma informação a nos passar. Gostei mais dessa versão que a do WS, apesar de ter ficado um pouco escura, porém o WS do Henk ficou ótimo também!

Congratulations on your 200th post! I really like this one. The composition is very nice and the scene is of course very beautiful. I wonder if the colours seem a little flat, but it could also be the light. As such, I think the workshop improves the image a bit, but otherwise great work!

Me dejas asombrado con los detalles de tu nota, y la foto me agrada muchísimo, a pesar de tener una iluminación muy limitada, las siluetas y los reflejos se destacan, y al final, el atardecer tiene un tono fascinante.

Hello José,

Congratulations on your 200th, and may there be a 2000th! Your usual informative note gives everyone a good idea of a less known junction of Spain and Portugal. This version of the image, although underexposed, is far more dramatic than the brighter image in the workshop.

Lately, I've had to cut down TE activities while concentrating on the new book — and the "day job" at the university.

J'aime beaucoup l'ambiance de cet endroit. Ton post traitement en accentue la magie mais on voit très fort que tu as retouché la photo.
Il n'empêche que cela est agréable à contempler.

..... aunque con retraso, felicidades amigo José por tu foto nº 200. Quizás no sea una imagen espectacular, pero no por eso deja de ser hermosa y encantadora... una toma en ese momento mágico del día al que muchos estamos enganchados y al que dedicamos muchas de nuestras capturas. También me gusta el Workshop, pero esta tiene ese punto de intimidad y misterio añadido.

Greetings Jose! Congrats on 200 posts, I look forward to 200 and more. This is a very good one too, I like the mood you created for me here of celebrating the final light of the day. It does seem a little too dark, but it could be my monitor at work here too but not by too much. The subtle painterly reflections of the mountains and final light is very beautiful.

Jose,
you're really busy at TE and already reached post 200. Congratulations! However, there is something that I cannot understand. The WS is CLEARLY the better one and you hide it as a WS. The main post looks almost like a untouched RAW file and the WS looks like the end product. What happened here. Are you starting to be humble and hiding the raisins in the cake instead of placing the icing on the top? Henk's WS gives some additional strenght to the final presentation.
Taking into account all my critiques it is a great shot and If the WS would be the main post it would have ended in my favorites!

P.S. Oh, so agora eu vejo o seu WS. Eu o confundi com o WS do Henk. Talvez esta imagem seja uma boa licao que vc realmente necessita de mudar de JPEG para RAW!

J'aime beaucoup ce point incandescent, au loin que l'on devine. Ce pourrait être le soleil, un feu, un autre monde... Et comme cela est mis en scène dans un univers très noir et donc très mystérieux, on se demande ce que ce peut être. Très belle composition, bien maîtrisée.

Olá José, andei a ver o que andaste a fazer na minha ausência e tinha que te vir congratular pelo post nº 200. Esta é daquelas situações chatas que eu não sei bem dominar que é quando o sol se pôs e já não há grande claridade, mas o céu ainda está em estado de graça. Embora também ache que está um bocadinho escura concordo totalmente com a tua opção e o momento é especialmente bonito. A meu ver o 1º plano do areal entra demasiado na imagem e fico surpreendido em ver como o pequeno corte do Henk resultou tão bem. Aliás o trabalho dele está deslumbrante, como acontece sempre que vejo qualquer intervenção dele. Estamos aqui para aprender e não me importava nada de ter aulas ao vivo com ele. Posto isto, espero partilhar contigo as próximas duzentas.
