Photographer's Note

Arpechim Refinery is one of the largest Romanian refineries and one of the largest in Eastern Europe, located in Piteşti, Argeş County, and has both refining and petrochemical capacities. The refinery has two processing modules with a nominal capacity of 6.5 million tonnes/year. Now only one of the two modules is operating with a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes/year or 70,000 bbl/d (11,000 m³/d). The facility is connected by pipeline to the oil fields in the Oltenia Region and to the Port of Constanţa. The refinery produces around 60% of all the bitumen used in Romania.

But Petrom(the country's largest oil company Petrom (SNP.RO)) does not plan to invest in upgrades at Arpechim, but wants to continue to operate the refinery. And above the refinery never you will see a clear sky,the pollution is maximum there.It is the pollution clouds are like an intermediate level between sun and earth ...
Shot taken from a moving car on highway,speed was around 140km/hour ...

Beauté paradoxale d'un endroit qui ne semble pas prédestiné à la poésie ... J'espère que tu ne conduisais pas quand tu as été attirée par les feux de ce magnifique soleil !

Buna Isabela,
foarte dramatic arata, pacat ca nu se si simte mirosul! Paisage industriale, si chiar mai mult ruine industriale sunt ceva special, de fiecare data cand trec langa sau vizitez o fabrica vreau sa imi scot aparatul, dar din pacate in majoritate de cazuri n-am voie sa arat pozele mele mai departe.
Dar si in Pitesti sa lucreze la schimbarea instalatii, dar e mare si scump (costa cam 2-3 Mrd. Euro sa imbunatatesti o rafinarie in totalitate). Si problema e ca Petrom are peste 11.000 situri poluate in Romania, si dureaza sa le curata, pentru ca sunt prea putine firme de specialitate pe piata.

ceva nu e in regula.....pe monitorul meu arata foarte inchisa(luminozitate) fatza de cea din e-mail...
a fost chiar atat de intuneric afara la momentul cand ai fotografiat?...trebuie sa-mi explici...ca nu mai inteleg nimic...:-DDD

nice ceep saturated colors. One thing though the industrial part is a bit too dark...one cannot really see it at first.

Hi Isabela, this is really quite impressive, especially considering it is shot from a car. Yet it is also a shame, that something so beautiful in is the product of something so damaging. Nevertheless, a fine capture of this mysterious scene. Best wishes, Casper

e a 2-a rafinarie a Europei din punct de vedere al complexitatii instalatiilor...demult la Cabana de Vanatoare din Piatra Craiului, fostul fief al lui Ceausescu, l-am cunoscut pe nenea inginerul ce proiectase o mare parte din tevaraie.

I liked splendid spectrum of sunset colors on dark sky. More darker industrial silhouettes at bottom are perfectly matches with your informative note. Congratulations.
