Electronic eyes, a photo from Sibiu, West

Photographer's Note

Sibiu is known as the city with eyes. The gothic style buildings reflect the Hungarian-German influence and many carry a common feature in their heavy tiled roof top: small attic windows that appear as eyelids looking down upon you. Houses use them as a cooling system for their attics. Most of the “eyes” were built between the 15th and 19th centuries. In the tall houses there are normally two eyes, but some of them have three, four or even five eyes.

This eye here is owned by a Big Brother.

These windows are a feature I got to know through Trekearth. This is a superb capture of it. Great composition and framing.

The spy camera looks like a tear in the eye.

This capture reminds me to after WWII years where there was a trend all over the world titled as "big brother is watching you" !

THe roof constructor had a good idea to frame the windows, it is looking like a pair of eye. The point of view is showing the details of the roof and of the windows. It is clear and sharp. Have a nice day.

Hello Piotr,
The windows in the roof are already very beautiful in themselves.
But the inclusion of the other windows with their shutters provide a very attractive composition.
I think that the Big Brother eye is a bit too striking to be able to spy on people :)

This is a wonderful photo. We have seen these fantastic Romanian roofs with their "eyes" many times before, but it's the first time I see a camera installed in one of them. Maybe it marks the rebirth of the Securitate, although these cameras are getting common everywhere. Politicians of all political colours keep calling for more surveillance of people. Even without the camera this would have been a very neatly cropped photo with superb clarity and colours. It really stands out among the thumbnails with its distinct features and composition.

Hello Piotr,
In baseball, the batter often makes a few black spots under his eyes. Not to scare the pitcher but to avoid light reflections on his white cheeks. He therefore sees the ball coming better.
This beautiful “face” reminded me of that.

I wonder how easily people would notice the eyes, just walking the streets.
Your photograph is perfectly composed, attention focussed on the roof, which have dreamy, happy eyes. It is so funny to find yourself smiling back!

in fact the windows in the roof looks like a pair of oriental eyes. curious the place where the owner of the house installed the camera, looks like a piercing.
