Photographer's Note

The Temple of Saint Sava (Храм светог Саве) is a Serbian Orthodox Church in Belgrade (Beograd). It's the largest - but not the tallest - Orthodox Church in the world.

The ground floor is 3,500 m2 (37,674 sq ft) and together with three galleries it can receive 10,000 faithful at any one time. The central dome is 70 m (230 ft) high and the gold-plated cross adds another 12 m (39 ft).

It's a rather young building. As of 2017, the exterior was completed and the bells and the windows had been installed. Works on the interior decoration are still ongoing.

From its location on the Vračar plateau, it dominates Belgrade's cityscape and it is perhaps the most monumental building in the city. Well deserved!

But we had dinner across the street - and didn't observe the church until leaving.
