Photographer's Note

This is the magnificent Mezquita in the southern Spanish town of Córdoba's. I have previously uploaded photos of both the internal and external details of the cathedral.

The Mezquita began life in the year 600 as a Christian church dedicated to St Vincent under the Visigoths. It later became a mediaeval Islamic mosque and was later converted to a Catholic cathedral when the Moors were ousted from rule. At one stage, the church was divided and both Muslims and Christians worshipped here. Now it is exclusively Christian, although many Muslims visit here to pay their respects. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, combining the best of Moorish, Romanesque and Gothic architecture.

The choice of perfect symmetry as a compositional tool worked perfectly here. The details are fantastic, I could spend hours looking at this facade.

Bonjour Lisa,

Je ne sais pas pourquoi on regarde toujours vers le haut dans une cathédrale.Le travail des plafonds à cette époque était remarquable. Il y avant beaucoup de lumière ce jour là.

Hello Lisa,
I would have thought Vinny & The Visigoths to be a death metal group, so pardon my ignorance. This magnificent church/mosque/church/mosque would probably not have suited them anyway. But the incredible architectural details and the light suit me very well, and so does the perfect symmetry of your photo.

Impressive place that seems to reach to the heavens, which I guess is the purpose of these impressive imposing places. You captured the sense of height perfectly here and the light is, well, heavenly. Beautiful shot

Ciao Lisa,le foto di questi interni sono sempre bellissime,ma secondo me anche la piu' perfetta non rende l'idea di cio' che si osserva e si vive essendo direttamente sul posto. This has to be a laudable example of tolerance, when Christians and Muslims were able to share the same building for worship and has to reveal something important about buildings!

The decoratative details are just amazing!
Worshippers must have believed they were in Heaven when they entered here!
You had some challenging lighting to contend with but have still managed to reveal the equisite, symmetrical details.
It's a place I would love to visit.

Beautiful interior of this Spanish cathedral.
Luxury and wealth of details and textures.
Unfortunately, today there are churches of which some people are trying to turn into a mosque.
In the Serbian republic of Kosovo separatists are trying to get your country there are many Serbian monasteries from the 11th century onwards, many evil burnt and some are trying to present themselves as their mosque.
These churches were built by Serbian kings for centuries and this people that is trying to rewrite the history of the Serbian settled here from Albania and asking some of their rights.

spectacular architecture indeed. I had a pleasure to visit it as well although I was not very happy with my photos. With great pleasure I watch yours. This one well demonstrates the extraordinary beauty of this place. The symmetry works well here and nice that you have looked up to the rich ceiling.
