Hi dear TE friends

Place : Covadonga / Cathedral

Theme: Trip to Peaks of Europe (VII)

The valley of Covadonga is situated to the north of Peaks of Europe, between these ones and the Cantabric Sea in Principado de Asturias.
The History tell us that a muslim army arrived till these lands where the few local christians captained by Don Pelayo resisted to the invader and won the battle.
Over a small hill in the valley you can see the sanctuary of Covadonga, built with a special stone which contrast with the green of the prairies and woods.
In the mornings, when the mist covers the valley of Covadonga and the leprechauns play on the wood, it is easy to see the sanctuary floating over the mist as it was built in the air.

The cathedral at Covadonga, (the second most important religious site in Spain after Santiago de Compostela) lie the lakes Lago Enol and Lago de la Encina, very popular with visitors. The Monasterio de Santo Toribio, near the old market town of Potes, is the third most important religious site in Spain and said to house a piece of the cross on which Jesus was crucified.. The cable car at Fuente De, affording easy and fast access to the central massif, is 20 kms from Potes.

I hope you like it, a big hug to all the friends of the TE.
