Winter fence, a photo from Dalarna, Svealand

Photographer's Note

This picture shows a typical Swedish countryside winterview. The fence is a traditional design that has been used by farmers for many hundred years. It is built up of stems from small spruce trees which are tied together with spruce roots. To make the fence durable the stems are heated slightly in a fire, a process that brings out substances from the inner to the surface to form a kind of impregnation. The turning of the leaning stems with the top to the ground also keeps the rot away. As you can imagine you need a lot of small spruces to build a fence of this kind, on every tree there is just one usable part.

I like the natural way fences are mostly made in Scandinavia. And this one, covered with fresh fallen snow is the perfect one to celebrate Christmas through a card...
Very lovely image, sharp and well framed.

It's a very nice photo. The fence is beautiful and is hardly seen under the snow. I like the b/w composition. I like the finger shape of the tree braches, covered with snow. a very nice picture.

Merry Christmas. It's a beautiful photograph. You have snow at three different stages of this photograph, and at each stage the texture of snow is a little different. The rexture are great and the repetitive pattern of the fence is very appealing.
