It is hard to think of a better place to be a border guard than Lago di Maggiore on the border of Switzerland and Italy. Switzerland hasn't been involved in a war for a couple of centuries. And while the neighbours of Switzerland are quite peace loving nowadays, that certainly hasn't always been the case. And long period of peace is not only because Swiss are nice guys. There is also the Swiss Army. And they have more than knives.

Hello Kari,
This is a scary boat which would probably keep the Italians away, in case they would attempt an invasion. Strange and insane things are happening these days, so you never know.
Besides, it's a nice photo with a lovely view of the lake and the green hills, with a fine foreground.

Hello Kari, Beautiful view of this board guard on Lago Maggiore. I didn't know that Switzerland has an army. I thought that they have banks, watches and knives. Swiss are lucky that they had no war for centuries. Poland was always an area of some wars. I am the first generation living such a long time without was, But how it will be?

Hello Kari, I wonder just how busy the border guards really are?
This is a good sharp shot, the boat does not show any blur from its movement.

Hello Kari,
A joke that is often made in Belgium about the Swiss army is that it had an infantry troop for cyclists.
But that would have ceased to exist in 2002.
Yes, the Swiss army has more than knives. They also have Swiss watches :)
Just kidding. As exemplary soldiers, the Swiss Guard was recruited for the Pope. So they have built up a good reputation.
The lake has beautiful steep wooded slopes.
