Pointing to Heaven, a photo from Neuchatel, West

Photographer's Note

One more archival picture from Neuchatel. I have presented this church before here from the opposite side and in quite a different light. In the winter months I will probably reach deeper into my archives.

The photo presents the Collegiate Church of Neuchâtel.
Collégiale church, begun in 1185 and consecrated in 1276, is a graceful example of early Gothic. The east end of the church, has three Norman apses. The main entrance, to the west, is crowned by a giant rose window of stained glass. Within the vaulted interior, the transept is lit by a lantern tower. The unique Cenotaph of the Counts of Neuchâtel is located on the north wall of the choir. Begun in 1372, and the only artwork of its kind to survive north of the Alps, the monument comprises fifteen near-life-size painted statues of various knights and ladies from Neuchâtel’s past, framed by 15th-century arches and gables.

A wonderful view of the twin towers of the church. They are lit so well by a bright and warm sunlight. The contrast with the blue sky is superb. I really like seeing all the details as well as the patterns of the roof tiles.

Hello Mariusz,

Punchy light contrasts with good sharpness and a fine upward pov on the twin spires of the cathedral. Nice warm cold colour contrasts also between the blue sky and reddish yellow stone facade. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz,

It's unusual to see close-ups of towers at an angle, like this; we usually get a front view, so that in itself adds interest.
I was a little disconcerted by the shadows, at first, but then realised how they added to the sense of depth and to the 3D effect of the curved surfaces, and began to appreciate them.

Fajne swiatlo troche zaklocone przez cien, ale cos za cos, nie zawsze jest tak jak by sie chcialo.

Hello Mariusz,
Two identical towers spearing upwards on the scene. It was a bit difficult perspective, as reckon there is a narrow street with shadows so close to the main object. Still, managed a fine lit picture.

Strong POV that lets the spiers beautifully point to the deep blue of the sky.
The bright sunlight gives nice sharp contrasts in the photo.

a nice constrast of the shapes of the towers against the sky, for some reason the church doesn't so old for me, maybe because the good conservation.

Mariusz, that church is a landmark in Neuchatel. It has two towers surmonted by a cross. Colored tiles cover the roofs. Good vertical framing. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Fantastic upward perspective that further elevates the height of the towers, a perfect POV with the view of the absides and the two high towers of the Collegiate Church.
Very effective color, which highlights the details of the image.
