View from Eggishorn to famous Great Aletschgletscher (Alletsch Glacier). rnrnBackground: Concordia Place (Konkordiaplatz) with Alp summits of Aletschhorn, Olmenhorn, Small Dreieckhorn, Jungfrau, Jungfraujoch, Mönch, Trugberg and Eiger.rnGreat Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km and a volume of about 15.4 km3, it covers around 81.7 km2. rnGreat Aletsch Glacier is located in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. rnAt the Konkordiaplatz, the glacier has an ice cover of more than 900 m, but as it moves to the south, the greater part of the ice melts, gradually decreasing the cover to around 150 m.rnThe area of the Aletsch Glacier and some surrounding valleys is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Hello Miro,
This is a great view of the glacier with a number of peaks very nicely distributed through the composition. The mainly blue sky makes the grey rocks look friendlier. The winding tracks in the snow give the view a fine rhythm. Exposure and colours are perfect.

Once again, an awe inspiring photo. Such a beautiful and powerful part of nature and you've captured it beautifully under a really cool play of shadow from the clouds. We think of the mighty mountains, but not so much the glaciar, the power behind it. Great post!

Hello Miro, Nice to see that you miss TE from time to time and post a picture. For me, there is something fascinating in the glaciers, very rarely I have the opportunity to see it. Gorgeous view of this river of ice flowing very slowly. What a disaster that the glaciers are melting slowly. Narvelous also the upper part of the picture with the high peaks covered with snow under the blue sky.

Glacier, now and again natures provides us with sights to treasure.... Great vantage point this was taken from and enough to savour this amazing icy landscape dominated by snow peaks to catch the eyes. It must be pretty exciting yet it might even be a little scary in some ways too. I love the extensive depth rendered as the winding tracks leads for the extra visual interest. The lighting work fined, superbly balanced and finished off by an excellent colour scheme. A compelling shot, Congrats

I've seen this amazing spectacle from the top of the glacier, but I imagine you had to do some serious hiking to reach this spot! It was well worth it, as the view, and indeed your composition do full justice to the wonderful scene.

Hi Miro, I like how the stripy appearance of the glacier and all those shadows give very contrasty result to ice. It is a wonderful place of bare rocks and slowly flowing and melting ice.

You have in fact 3 joining glaciers and the brown surface at left shows where they were before melting (global warming)

This well-composed and sharp photo puts the great glacier front and center. It's astonishing that the depth is 900 m, diminishing to 150 m as it spreads out. I am happy to read the information as much as I enjoy the photo.
