Photographer's Note

Isole di Brissago is a group of two islands located in the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore. The larger one is well known for its botanical garden. Created in 1885 by Baroness Antoinette St. Leger, the Botanical garden is a unique site with more than 2’000 subtropical plants species.

Southern tip of the island has plants from Southern Africa (8956 km from Cape Town). And rest of the world is towards right. As vaccinations start to help on pandemic this sign amused me. It is finally time to go and see the rest of the world!

Hello Kari,
I suppose you started slowly by just seeing the plants from the rest of the world. In the "real" world the virus is like to be busy forming new mutations in countries where less than 10% percent of the population have yet been vaccinated. Apart from that it's a funny sign and a simple but eye-catching photo.

Hi Kari,I thought it was the usual indication of the distance of a distant city that we often see in tourist resorts, instead it is a useful indication of the origin of the plants in this botanical garden. There are many of these gardens in the Canton Ticino and around the lakes of northern Italy, a trend of the past centuries that still gives a spectacle. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano
