Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

This is a robin photographed near Windermere in the Lake District. Robins are quite curious birds and sometimes allow you to get quite close.

I'm not sure whether it applies in other countries but in the U.K. robins are always associated with Christmas.

I researched the fact and discovered that robins are a beloved festive symbol, an association that probably arose from the fact that postmen in Victorian Britain wore red tunics as part of their uniforms and were nicknamed robins. So the robin on the Christmas card came to represent the postman who delivered the card.

That was the origin but we always see robins in our gardens in winter. They do not migrate and their bright red breasts make them more conspicuous than other birds.

I wish you a happy day, Bev :-)
