Photographer's Note
High Force is one of the largest waterfalls in England, located on the upper reaches of the river Tees it can be seen from either the south bank of the river, as here, or from the north bank as is more usual. To reach this particular vantage point an envigorating walk must be taken along the river taking about an hour to reach. It is however well worth the effort as the route is along the Penine Way through some wonderful scenery and you also pass the less famous Low Force at Bowlees.
This photograph was taken after a period of considerable rainfall and the river is very high. Most photographs you see of High Force will only have water flowing over the left hand cataract (as we look here). To see water in such abundance over the fall is uncommon since the construction of Cow Green reservoir in the High Tees valley (completed 1971)
Not much post production trickery here, I've darkened the sky slightly and tweaked the colour up a touch but otherwise pretty much as the shutter went beep.

Great shot Martin, you have realy captured the strength of the falling water - I can almost hear it thundering down the drop. Well done. Leon.

Here's a picture of it in full flood in 1968 - before the Dam was built upstream.

Hello Martin,
il y a de la puissance et du fracas dans cette cascade.
Un tas de POV étaient possibles , celui-ci est très bon.
Best regards.
Daniel.

I've never seen it with both sides flowing; it just goes to show how much rain there has been lately. It's just over an hours drive for me and it is on my list for the near future as I think this is the best time of year for it.
This is a fantastic viewpoint and you have really captured the power. Well done
Kath
