Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This is a photograph showing part of the flagged area (flagged is an old local word for paved) in the centre of Colne town.
There used to be shops on this site but in 2008 it was updated with new shops and this stone art work.
A water feature was intended to work with these stone spheres but an unexpected increase in costs meant that the water was never installed.
I cannot help but see these spheres as metaphors for the solar system. They are features to be thoughtfully protected, just as our Earth needs protecting, at a time when world leaders are meeting to discuss effective methods.
Let's hope they see the need to revise our dependence on fossil fuels, and to consider how to reuse materials rather than discarding!
Please see another view as a workshop.
Have a good w/e, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
A good photo and composition of these large stone spheres, I can imagine what they'd look like as a fountain, but without the water they still make a nice work of art, which indeed seems to be inspired by the solar system. The bright sunlight added some nice shadows as well.

Hello Bev,
I understand how you compare this to our solar system, and maybe that idea benefits from the lack of water, which might have lead your thoughts in other directions. But whatever we see in this monument it's quite nice, so much more attractive than the average man on a horse that hopefully belong to the past in public places. The surfaces of the globes seem to be quite smooth. I hope it's allowed to pat them (but no graffiti, please).
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Beverley, a neat composition and a thought provoking note.
I like the comparison between the stone spheres and the solar system.
Taken in a good light, the spheres are in sharp focus.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Bev,I really liked your idea of associating these stone balls with our solar system and above all with the future of ours, always poised between ecology and the economic interests of the large energy holdings. In the meantime, a good example has been given here, even if unintentional, saving the waste of water for the unfinished fountain .. ehhee .. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Bev,
It is a good comparison to the solar system, large planet to the smallest planet. The point of view is showing the details of the stone art work. The li9ght is giving good colors rendering. Have a nice day.

Hi Bev
If the near one is Earth it is looking very dry! A good photo of the installation.
And please don't go blaming everyone in Australia for our government's inaction on climate change. Research shows that the overwhelming majority of us want the government to pussy footing about.
cheers

Hi Bev
The word 'Colne' looks very similar to Köln (Cologne in French / English) in Germany. I wonder if both are derived from the Latin word 'Colonia' (Colony)? (Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium was the Roman colony in the Rhineland from which the German city of Cologne developed.) Nice repetition of the sphere, with good sharpness and lighting. Tfs!

Hello Beverley,
Though for a moment that I see an orbital array of planets on display.
Still a well taken picture of big stones-balls placed in a middle place in town.
My best regards,
Ike

Hello Beverley,
You can indeed compare the spheres with planets in a solar system.
If only one of them had a full ring around it.
It is a pity that the project also provided a water feature, but due to a lack of financial resources it was limited to these spheres. How does the artist explain his project now?
Best regards, Paul

Hi Bev.
This original composition, which we could assimilate, as you say, to a partial metaphor of our solar system, is curious in these moments of meeting of the powerful countries, which do very little, to try to minimize the greenhouse effects of the earth and I have just comment to Ifege a photo of a house in Australia where they want to authorize an open-cast coal mine, this has no solution .....
A magnificent coloring, very good lighting management and very good sharpness, in this photo and WS.
Well done. I like it.
I wish you a pleasant week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Bev,
this photo reminds me a picture I took in my hometown:
https://www.trekearth.com/viewphotos.php?l=8&p=1338886
with the similar balls indeed aimed at imitating the Solar system.
Here I showed a wider view:

Great use of the repeated motif here! I think I have seen something like that in Sheffield but the balls were polished like mirrors...
Very well done,
M

Hello Beverly,
I like the looks of these concrete spheres, maybe it's just as well that they did not water feature was not installed. I, too, am looking forward to a cleaner energy source but I do not think that these electric cars are the answer. I think they are just a stopgap measure. Their batteries are problematic environmentally.
Regards,
MT
