Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
Several people have posted old, derelict buildings recently, and it has made me wonder why they haven't been snapped up cheaply and renovated!
Well, I have to admit, there is such a place near where I live!
My photograph shows old cottages, situated in a scenic spot, near the river. The left hand cottage is still inhabited and has been modernised!
What I can't understand is why, the owners haven't purchased the rest of the building and created a very desirable dwelling, rather than let is slowly decay!
The right hand cottage still shows three storeys, with mullioned windows; it is very historic!
Maybe the cost of renovation is too great but, any outlay would surely be recouped in the increased value of the property!
Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)

Hello Beverley, yes, it is a puzzle as to why the right hand side of the building has no been developed, maybe it was too expensive for the neighbours to purchase.
It certainly makes an interesting picture.
A good composition, I like that now the leaves have fallen we are able to see so much more of the building.
Very good sharpness.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Bev,
Not only the buildings look abandoned and neglected, the surroundings look overgrown and unattended. It could have been a nice location, but now I wouldn't know. Maybe the apartment to the left is modernized and comfortable, but just how much fun could it be to live next door to a ghost house? Perhaps everything looks better on the back which we can't see.
While the building looks really bad, the photo is good in this horizontal composition with the river floating by and enough space given to the trees on both sides.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,certainly the biggest problem is the lack of money, even taking on a mortgage in these times is quite risky. But the place is truly enchanting, in nature and very quiet, ideal for retirees. Excellent photo, the abandoned houses theme is always fascinating. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Beverley,
The more grey and cloudy autumn weather goes well together with the subject of this old and partly ruined house. The surrounding nature, which is slowly taking back the house as well, still adds plenty of colour.

Hello Bev,
I know perfect what are renovation, but Belgium requires houses older than 25 years to meet certain standards in terms of insulation, roof and walls.
These type buildings are certainly goed to restauration, only time and money.
Also a lovely picture with a green and autumn surroundings.
Very well done, TFS.
Warmest regards,
John.

Hello Beverley,
I assume that both homes have different owners and that the part on the right is not for sale or too expensive or the renovation costs can be too high.
Although quietly located, it seems very sinister to live there.
Maybe one day you'll see these buildings again in a British horror movie...
Nicely taken from across the river, hopefully a nicer spot.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Bev,
How strange it is that someone is willing to live in a "half dead" house! I would find it a bit creepy. This is an unusual find, and the area around this cottage looks a bit, spooky, too. Take care!

Hi Bev,
The trees are framing well the old cottage. The point of view is showing thed etails of the renovated section of the cottage and the one which isn't. It is terrible to see a section of the cottage abandoned. Have a nice dya.

HI Bev
This is an unusual "derelict" building with only one part still in use. Even the occupied part seems to have overgrown grounds.
Good reportage and photo.
cheers

bev
a nice view of this building in ruins, really a pity so beautiful old structures are being lost, we imagine the histories and the personages inside these places. In Instagran I have a marvelous page with artistic photos with a couple in abandoned places, the places are so amazing and you think : how they could have abandoned such buildings ? I am not sure if I sent you the name of the page to you, or even if you have instagram (Athom.01)this is the name of the page.
take care

Hello Beverly,
I would ask the same question, wouldn't the derelict half bring down the good half eventually? If not physically, definitely in value.
Regards,
MT
