Autumn on the Tram Tracks, a photo from Lancashire, England

Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

This morning, I am sharing an autumnal view of the remnants of the tram tracks, which run through our village.

I have shown different views of this historical feature but not from this viewpoint, with the colours of autumn playing an important part.

In the photograph, there are strong contrasts between the evergreen trees and shrubs and those that are deciduous. The deciduous tree, in the foreground, has spread a beautiful carpet of warm colours.

The shedding of leaves helps trees conserve water and energy. As unfavourable weather approaches, hormones in the trees trigger the process of abscission, whereby the leaves are actively cut off the tree by specialised cells. The word abscission shares the same Latin root word as that in scissors, scindere, which means to cut.

At the start of the abscission process, trees reabsorb valuable nutrients from their leaves and store them for later use in their roots. Chlorophyll, the pigment that gives leaves their green colour, is one of the first molecules to be broken down for its nutrients. This is one of the reasons why trees turn red, orange and gold colours during the fall. At the end of the abscission process, when the leaves have been shed, a protective layer of cells grows over the exposed area. - EarthSky

Hello Beverley,
Lovely autumn impression, the path makes a good diagonal in the centre and I really like the mix of green and yellow leaves, and especially the pattern of the fallen ones in the grass.

Must be a wonderful walk upon the old track, Beverley.
Autumn has best colors to enjoy the surrounding view and the noise made by stepping upon the falling leaves.
We do not have such colors in our fall in Israel.

Hello Bev,
Another perfect diagonal, this time with mainly yellow vegetation on one side and mainly green on the other. It would have been a nice photo even without that person, but I never say no to a human presence. The WS also has some fine colours too, and the better light created nice shadows.
I almost missed this photo because time change in the USA placed the most recent photos behind the older ones.

Hello Beverley, an excellent composition with the track beginning from the corner and leading us right to the centre of the shot.
The walking man is a very good focal point too.
The colours are so typically autumn, lovely.

Good inclusion of the man almost at the vanishing point where the parallel lines of the flagstone path converge. An excellent Autumn capture with the fallen yellow brown leaves forming a veritable carpet. Tfs!

The length of the path is giving depth and perspective to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the trees. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Your photo in the WS makes me wonder what that light blue thing behind the pine tree is.
The diagonal line of the cobblestone street provides a good composition.
Beautiful autumn scene where a lot of leaves have already fallen but the cobblestones are still clearly visible.

The cobble stones make your picture attractive.
A pity the old trams are disappeared and replaced by smelly buses, the same decisions in Belgium, certainly unwise

Ciao Bev,even the weather helps you to recreate the perfect autumn situation with its gray light and cloudy sky. So ... two perfect photos. Excellent capture of the old tramway and the colors of the leaves of the plane tree, unfortunately this tree does not take on red colors, but only yellow and brown, however the colors are very bright in spite of the light, excellent quality as always. Old rail tracks (and in this case tram tracks) make for good walk ways and mostly away from roads. A good photo of the peaceful scene with the lone walker.

Nice series of autumnal compositions. I should probably venture out in the search for such opportunities but the time is limited. The only reason I went to the Moon was that exposition was about to end soon otherwise I would probably give up on that too.
