You have to admire the magnificent madness of the volunteers that keep the preserved railways running in the UK (and elsewhere). They are to coin a phrase "round the bend"!

There is nothing quite like a steam locomotive to complete a landscape.

I took this photograph three years ago on Goathland Moor and just came across it again when I was looking for something else! I've re-sized it for TE and popped it in a frame.

The train itself is interesting as the whole train is of a consistent period which can be rare on preserved railways with locomotives from the 30s pulling coaches from the 60s. Here we see a BR standard class tank engine pulling a rake of Mk1 BR coaches painted in "Blood and Custard" as the cream and maroon scheme was called. This photograph could, a sense, have been taken in the 1950s or 60s - there is nothing out of place. Indeed the railway is often used for film locations, the "Hogwarts Express" from Harry Potter passes this way and the popular TV series "Heartbeat" is filmed on the line.

We have a friend who is a volunteer driver on the NYMR, so I take your "round the bend" point! :D. Your timing was good when you took this, just before the train went into the shade, although it has resulted in over-exposed steam. I can't figure out your viewpoint but I recognise the typical NYM scenery. I like the way your frame picks out the "bllod and custard" colours of the carriages. Well done

hi martin, like feather i can not work out where you took it from, but realy like the way you have got the full train in the shot

Hi Martin, I've tried a few train and plane pics in my time on TE, but not as good as this. You have the motion and the backdrop that makes it all come together and work as a picture. Well done.
