Photographer's Note

The Blast Furnace at Redcar, England. Steel here has been made since 1917 and used to make iconic locations around the world such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Closed in 2009 with the loss of 1700 local jobs, it was reopened on 15 April 2012 providing much needed local employment.

Redcar is a small holiday coastal town on the North Yorkshire coast, it is located behind the photographer in this photograph which is taken from the dunes on Redcar's beaches which are long and very wide. To the right of the image can be seen the lights of the town of Hartlepool which is the other side of the River Tees, the river which flows through Middlesbrough.
