Photographer's Note
This shot was taken on a beautiful July evening near the village of Lesbury, in Northumberland. I was struck by the whispy white clouds and the balance of blue sky and golden wheat.
I used a polariser, turned to have maximum effect on the blue sky and really emphasise the clouds. The effect is perhaps a little strong, but on this occasion, I think it suits the image.
The structure on the right of the image is known locally as the '18 Arches' - a viaduct which carries the main East Coast railway line over the river Aln. I had to work fast to capture the clouds in the right position to balance the viaduct - a few minutes later they were gone, and the sky was a clear blue.
