Photographer's Note
This is a chimera or grotesque on the church of St. Michael and All Angels at Downholme in North Yorkshire. A grotesque (often erroneously called a "gargoyle") is, depending on which source you believe, supposed to frighten illiterate peasants into attending church or to ward off true demons by fooling them into thinking there is already a demon in residence!
Converted to black and white with photoshop and shrunk to size for TE
