Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
This is Bamburgh Castle.
It was a rainy, mist swept day when we were there but, somehow, that added to the strength and formidability of the castle. (It is always harder to make a cloudy day have the impact of a bright blue sky, with gorgeous light, but the moods can often be stronger.)
It is situated on a sheer, rocky outcrop, a perfect location for its security.
I have just been reading a set of historical novels by Bernard Cornwell beginning with 'The Last Kingdom' which are all about Saxon Northumberland and Bambugh Castle at the time of the Viking invasions. This link will explain about the novels and Uhtred, the main character.
I can seriously recommend them as a good read.
After enjoying these books, it almost felt like coming home when I at last visited Bamburgh (Bebbanburg in the novels).
Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed the photgraph and the link, Bev :-)

What a beautiful sight to come upon and have the opportunity to explore and take photos. You've captured this Castle perfectly and have presented it in awesome natural colors and really outstanding light management for the conditions you had to deal with. I love the way you have the sand and grass in the FG adding a bonus to the perfect framing here. Your POV and DOF are in stunning clarity and I find this photo energetic and alluring, simply a gorgeous photo Beverley, excellent job!!

Hello Bev,the imposing bleakness of the castle is well portrayed with the stormy sky above and the wind blown vegetation used to good effect in the immediate FG.
Won`t it be nice when summer arrives!
Kind regards Les.

Good morning Beverly,
Inspite of the dark light, under clouds, the place is overwhelming.
I made a trial on my PC, and raised illumination-curve to see more details, and the castle has a majestic grandeur over the green hill in FG.
You may have to go again on a bright day for a re-take...
Impressive edifice.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Bev,
yoyur pov certainly gives the castle a formidable aspect. And as you say the rain adds to a certain grimness.Well composed with the light giving a natural and perhaps usual view of how the castle is seen.
Thanks for your link to the ernard Cornwell series. I have made a note and will try the first. It will be lovely to have so many more to read after the first.
best regards,
Bev

Hi Beverley,
With the weather threatening, the fortress expresses a formidable military power. The point of view and framing are particularly well chosen. Good quality. Bravo.
Have a nice day

Hi Bev.
Stunning image with this great fortress that stretches taking up the whole hill, wonderful color contrast between these green and dry grass in the foreground, the bright green on the slopes and the mighty stone walls and battlements, the cloudy sky adds a touch of drama and mystery to this mythical site.
A magnificent work that I find a nice place I had not seen before.
Enjoy the weekend.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hi Bev
A good upward pov on the imposing old stone castle with excellent sharpness & a moody diffused light. I think some burning and dodging would benefit this shot to even up the lighting a bit. Excellent graphism & lighting contrasts, particularly top right. Have a nice Sunday!

Dear Beverley,
you low POV on this fascinating castle works very well! I think that you were very lucky with the weather conditions because the mood makes the image very attractive. My compliments also for the nice note!

Hello Bev,
nice the view of the Bamburgh castle as spread all over the top of the hill,as dominating the area.
The moody atmosphere makes the image more effective with the grass on the foreground to contrast with the green othat surroung the hill.
Have a good weel,Danos

Hello dear Bev
What a fascinating structure, so full of history and atmosphere. The image looks slightly dark, but this could be my weird monitor. I like the mood of the photo and the details are superbly rendered. A great shot, and accompanying note.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Beverley,
Since I have moved to north east I have heard several times about this amazing place. The castle famous mainly due to the amazing location. Here you have selected a less popular POV. The weather was rather bad.
This is actually something what keeps me from getting there. I am very much weather dependent and weather like this discourages me from leaving home.
I hope we get few sunny days this year to make trips like that.

Bev
This a great pov of the castle showing the steepness of the rocks it sits on, and giving a good indication of the difficulty faced by any aggressors.
The tall grass provides good foreground interest, and the exposure excellent, ensuring that any detail in the cloud is retained.
