Photographer's Note
This shot was taken on Murlough Beach near Newcastle County Down, with the Mourne mountains in the distance. Heavy rainfall was intermittent which allowed the sun to shine through for some minutes at a time. The outgoing tide had produced the ripple effect in the sand which really stood out in the low sunlight. A heavy shower of rain can just be seen at the left of picture on the slope of the mountain. The little seashell at bottom left provides interest in the lower portion of the photograph.
This photograph was taken in June 2012 and is typical of the type of summer weather we have had this year.
The relatively slow shutter speed evened out the small amount of movement there was in the water.
Camera, Nikon D90 this time, using the 18-105 kit lens at a focal length of 18mm. F20 with an exposure time of 1/10 sec. ND SE 0.6 GRAD. Photoshop CS5.
Thanks for looking.
Thank you everyone for the kind and useful comments, it's much appreciated.

Hi Nigel,
I like the composition with a nice depth and interesting patterns in the sand. The small white shell in the right corner is well positioned.
Good dof.

Dear Nigel,
Welcome to TE. I love the dream-like quality to this image with the milky water and the patterns in the sand. The stormy sky adds to the effect. Lovely depth of focus and sharpness.

Hi Nigel,
really nice work, dreamlike and with a beautiful contrast between the mirror like water and the rippled sand. DOF is excellent elading into the distant mountains, and a beautiful active sky to top it all off. Thanks for sharing!

The straight line formed by the tide here is incredible, and I love the way you've captured it - there is, as others have said, a dreamlike quality to the shot that is enhanced by the storm clouds in BG and the bright but soft lighting.

Hi Nigel,
nice landscape with the image divided in sea and sand. The big mountain in the background add a nice mood to the hole picture.
Well done.

hi Nigel,
a fine clever composition with the 2 vertical parts : the sand on the right and the sea on the left, leading to the mountains on the background.
nice light on the sand.

Bonsoir Nigel,

Nigel
You commented on my recent post a few days ago, and it takes me til now to get back ! Then you had just one post of your own, and now six, and they're brilliant !
You ask in your 'front page' for feedback, strikes me you know most of the answers..
That said, for me, while I love the overall effect of this post, the strong dividing effect of the centre-line jars to my eye, a more diagonal pov would assist.
( to answer my own criticism though, I can see the appeal of standing on the waterline, and I can see the appeal of the block of hills centralised at the rear, it may just be bad luck they all lined up on this particular day ? )
But the overall effect of the crisp FG, the long sense of depth to the mountains, and the moody light playing there - love it !
So, I look fwd to more...

Hi again Nigel,
I enjoyed a lot my holiday in Northern Ireland a few years ago, so it's a pleasure to see and comment nice photos of this place on TE ! I love how you played with the lines on the sand to add depth to your composition. Great cloudy sky over the mountains in the background. Not a very good weather to walk, but a good one to take photos !

Olivier

Hi Nigel
Outstanding seascape shot. It was featured on TE homepage today and rightly so. I like the idea to divide the frame into two parts each showing sand ripples in a different way. The rain clouds in the distance add context.
Best wishes
Kasia
