Photographer's Note
Autumn colours cloak the landscape around little Coombes Church nestled on a steep slope of the South Downs along the banks of the River Adur, West Sussex, England; Coombes Church dates from Norman/Saxon times. The nave dates from 1100 or before and the chancel was built in the 13th and 14th century. The church contains some amazing wall paintings of around 1100 which depict the gospel story of the birth of Jesus. Re-discovered only in 1949, these have survived from the time when English churches were richly decorated, and pictures were used to teach the Gospel to those who could not read.

Hello Brian,
This is a very peaceful landscape, with nice colors of autumn.
The sharpness is, as usual, perfect.

Hello Brian,
I haven't seen much autumn colour this year in West Sussex but this picture shows it very well. This lovely church is sheltered in the hillside and has some lovely warm colours. A very fine composition with gorgeous detail.
Kind Regards, Ann

Dear Brian,
Lush green environment is very nicely captured by you. Lovely presentation, good composition. However if the house is off centered, it would have been more attractive.

Hello Brian - Fabulous detail in the beta version especially in the foliage; textures and colours are excellent. I love the small track that leads down the hillside to the church, it underlines the rural location. What a pretty scene.
Warm regards

Hi Brian,
Amazing that this little church has survived so very long undiscovered, and great to hear ts art survive too, so much from those times has been lost. What is really great is that here were, many centuries later and it allows you to compose it in this beautiful warm autumnal shot, a charming seasonal view of the place. I'd say this place looks brilliant in winter snow too, or in fact in all seasons. Great place and photo, cheers.

Hey there MPI,
Thanks for the laughs today! :)
What a quaint little church, all cozy and snuggled up in the landscape like this. I would almost be enticed to actually attend if it were in this type of setting....but, as it stands....I'm lazy and there's probably a game on somewhere that will re-direct my attention. I hope there are t.v.'s in hell!? lol
A superb image befitting the Autumn season, full of rustic colors and fresh greens. Geez, am I describing a salad?? So unlike me...where's the beef, I ask?!! (There ya' go, that one's all tee'd up for you. :P)
This church seems so small, how on earth could it be covered with 11oo paintings...my word, ancient grafitti?? O.K., I'd better stop before it becomes too sacrilegious and I really do end up in eternal damnation....or is that already a foregone conclusion? :o
Colors, clarity and detail shine as always...another classy result mate. Have a good one. Take it easy.
Cheers from the dark side,
The Emporer

Hello there,
A picturesque scenery, for me it is more imaginative place rather than religious place. Thanks for sharing...

Brian,
Brilliant colors!
A bit unusual, treetops look sunlit and the grass as if it were under the clouds.

Hello Brian,
This one's right up my street.
A beautiful bucolic scene with lovely light, picked out with a very long lens where you've "homed in" on this beautiful and simple little old church to allow it to stand out perfectly amidst a little landscape of glowing autumn colours.
Lovely light and subtle shadows, glorious warm colours, perfect exposure and exquisite detail and sharpness in a very fine composition.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.
