Photographer's Note

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday, I posted a photograph of Bolsover Castle. Some people were curious about its condition, was it completely derelict or were some parts habitable.

Well some parts are habitable and contain furniture but what I wanted to share was this building, seen through the doorway, which is the riding school. (I will add a closer view as a workshop.)

The Indoor Riding School is a magnificent indoor building - the earliest such building in England to survive complete. Once riding master to the future King Charles II, William Cavendish built the Riding School and stables for the elegant horses he imported from as far afield as Turkey and North Africa.

Sometimes the Riding School is brought dramatically to life with regular performance of classical dressage in this fine indoor school. Bolsover Castle is the only place in the country which stages regular performances of this breathtaking art, one of only four schools remaining in the world. The displays of circles, turns and leaps are performed to evocative Baroque music, with riders dressed in the frills, feathers and high boots, typical of the Cavalier period

I will create a little fun, with a view inside the Riding School!

Thank you for your interest, Bev :-)
