Photographer's Note
Yesterday I read about the most expensive cities in the world (https://www.timeout.com/news/revealed-the-worlds-most-expensive-cities-for-expats-in-2022-060822).
By almost every measure of spenny-ness, Hong Kong topped the rankings. For everything from tomatoes and cooking oil to petrol and take-out coffees, HK proved more expensive than the likes of Sydney, London and New York. The continued strength of the Hong Kong dollar also contributed to the city’s stubborn priciness.
Here are full top ten most expensive cities for expats in 2022, according to ECA’s study:1. Hong Kong 2. New York 3. Geneva 4. London 5. Tokyo 6. Tel Aviv 7. Zurich 8. Shanghai 9. Guangzhou 10. Seoul.
As you can see, London is in fourth place. I was not afraid of this. For 11 days, for everything: flight from Warsaw and back, one-day trip to Bath, accommodation in hostels, food, visiting places, buses and tube, I spent 555 GBP, equal to 650 euro. I do not think it is so much.
Of course, it was possible because I stayed in hostels. I couldn't afford to stay in hotels, especially now when I am alone. But I LIKE hostels. It has many advantages: it is cheaper, usually has an equipped kitchen so one can prepare something to eat and avoid expensive restaurants, and there is a common space. There, in the evening one can check e-mails, chat with other tourists and exchange experiences, sometimes to get good tips. The meeting with people was important for me, for some moments I could forget about my sorrow.
Here are photos from the hostel in London. It was well situated a few minutes from the metro station and museums in Kensington, so very quickly I could be wherever I wanted. The area was quiet, typical English, and very pleasant. There was a big patio where the dinner was served (free!). The breakfast buffet was also free. I liked it very much.
Two more photos in Workshops.
I am afraid my next trip will be very expensive :(.

Hello Malgo,
This is a great view from above, which often is my favourite angle for creating surprising compositions. It's colourful and lively and shows the other guests who I imagine are mostly 40-50 years younger than us. ;-) The WS are good complements.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Malgo,
You have captured well the action on the patio. The point of view is showing the details of the patio and of the flag. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hi Malgo
An interesting shot, as are the ones in the WS. I like the view point and when looked at in a larger image it is interesting to observe the characters.

Ciao Malgo, three beautiful photos of your hostel, there is a lot of life and a lot of youth, I am really surprised by your really cheap expense for this trip, in 1991 I spent 1500 euros for 15 days ... an interesting post also for the notes that indicate the most expensive cities, I thought I would also find Milan, after the pandemic, prices have shot up a lot. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hi Malgo
I have stayed in hostels a couple of times but usually try to find (and that means pre-booking) self contained apartments which you can usually get for less than hotels and it lets you make the most of local markets. I was surprised that after being mentioned in the text that Sydney avoided the top 10!
Good photos showing the different times of day in the hostel.
cheers

não gosto de compartilhar quartos com estranhos e não uso hostels. em londres eu fiquei hospedado em hotéis não muito caros, um deles era uma escola de hotelaria.
gostei da decoração com a bandeira e os personagens bem colocados em cena.
um abraço

Hello Malgo,
It looks like a very pleasant place. My favorite is the photo of the cat. I am sure decorating the ground with the flag of the country wouldn't go over very well in Turkey, but the Brits are more relaxed about their national symbols. It looks nice, too.

Hello Malgo,
The Britain flag is an eyes catching object from the height of your POV. Than, looking at details, watched every person here on the scene, enliven and colorful, action well detected.
Have a nice new week,
Ike
