Photographer's Note

Taken at Southerndown in South Wales this February. An incredible location for landscape photography, offering tremendous variety in a small location. For this shot I really wanted to show the rock isolated in the pool with water visible behind, but without a stepladder I simply couldnt get enough height. In the end I settled for this central composition, with the sunset and people offset.

Woaw Adam! Incredible colours and scenary with a mystic atmosphere. Seems like an oracle.Contrast and POV are perfect, like the moment you took it (with clouds in there but not covering the sun-down and with the still bue sky in the little "lake"). Really artwork!!! Thanks for showing that beauty.

Superb play of colour and reflection.
The folk on the beach give a wonderful sense of scale.The stone in the foreground appears as if floating in the pool - a really nice effect.

Cracker of a shot Adam ,beautifull reflection ,and superb colour tones ,but i think if the people were not included in the view the shot would have been wasted ,they give it depth and the eye picks them out very quickly

This could only be Southerndown. Beautiful reflections in the pool with good rim lighting. There are locations on the beach that afford you the high position that you were after, but every tide brings a different pool. Good time is after a gale in mid winter, you can get very deep steep sided pools around the rocks.

Still a great pic, mate!
Lovely isolated pool - because of a high contrast, this can be used as an illusion, too - as the rock seems to be floatin above the pool!
Nice portion of blue sky seen only as a reflection.

Awesome shot! The pool of water is like a mirror, reflecting that incredible sky. The rock in the centre gives a nice focal point too. I've sometimes had the idea to bring a small stepladder too, to get a higher angle, but I've never actually done it. Wonderful work, as usual!

Lovely photo to find on the TE intro page; I was on hols when you posted it. The rock sitting in the "mirror" creates a very dynamic foreground and it's really interesting because the reflection is very different from the light in the background. The small silhouettes and the setting sun is stunning. My daughter, who is standing next to me, keeps saying that your photo is too beautiful :-)

How do you do it? ND grad filter? Or PP? Stunning image, but since the reflection seems lighter than the sky, there must be some manipulation involved. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!, I do it too.) Also the sea just below the horizon near the left edge of the frame seems to be "painted" orange.
