Photographer's Note
The Dead Sea. The lowest place on earth. 396 meters below sea level. also the saltiest lake on earth. The name of the lake - Dead Sea is true - there are no life there - no fish, no plants.
Ah, except from this plant, which is probably the lowest plant on earth, and an unbelievable victory of life against the deadly environment.
You can see the salt around.
Against all odds - my third entry to the scav hunt.
BTW the reflected mountains are across the border - in Jordan.

A great graphic photo Itzik! With the light, colors and salt on the plant the place looks like it's extraterrestrial grounds... Very good capture!

It looks like a painting! Beautifully composed, wonderful pastel colors, and I like the subtle mountain reflection in the upper area. An ingenious entry into this category of the scav hunt. The frame you added was also very well chosen. Great catch, Yitzhak, easily among your best work.

Love the simplicity and calmness of this shot. The uniform blue with just a hint of pink in the top right increases the isolation of this plant, and the tranquillity of the shot. reminds me of a shot by dsidwell called congregation (or something like that). Great shot, well done.

Is this a painting or a photo, Yitzhak?
Can't believe what I see - the sea surface is excellently stained with different blues and touches of some other colours which I find hard to define.
And that salt crystals on the plant!
Truly amazing work!

That is a compliment, of course. This is a fine, distinctive capture made more curious by the fact it is impossible to read the scale. Are we looking a a circle of trees or of weeds rising from and reflected in the water? Wonderful composition with both delicate details and soft colors. Very fine work, to my eye.

A terrific title, a terrific note - and a magnificent shot. That incredible haze of blue and violet really holds so many colours. I guess it is all water and that the reflection you refer to is the violet part. The entire thing makes me think of Claude Monet's water lilies - and that's a compliment.

And an excelent entry! Unbeatable I guess. In fact quite impressive how a plant survives in such a salty environment. Good negative space technique although just a bit more space to the right and top could work well. very nice "surreal" colors.

Hey Yitzhak, whata beautiful emptu shot this is, only a fwe colours, but so nice! The atmosphere is, I can hardly express it, not even in Dutch, a bit magical, I'd say at least. Compostion is beautiful. One could almost say it is frozen, and there's frost on the branches. really beautiful

I've been there in may 2004, and I had a bath in the dead see. I can say that this is a great feeling to be in such water and I confirm that there is nothing alive there!
This plant is well composed inside your frame: in the left part and in the 1st tier on the picture.
The tones of blue are very nice too.
Well done.

I just have to repeat myself with my "critique" of the linked picture "snake". I think I like this the most. Great place and beautifully captured. Strange that such a harshe place can be so beautiful?
I think it's just one more reminder that things are not always what they seem, and that when things grow ugly something else will climb out of that mess...

Hello Yitzhak,
What a compelling photo. The great physicist Werner Heisenberg once made the pronouncement, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it give a person to hear/see what he already knows." Well, that was my first impression of this photo. I've seen the Dead Sea a number of times (my closest friend, from the 70s at Oxford, is a professor of physics at the Technion). In six trips to visit him, we have frequently done touristing after an intense period of work. Accordingly, I derived great pleasure in seeing your photo.
What I also like is your photography is the integration of your photographic/painterly eye and your technical skills. (I am a theoretical physicist and an artist, thus the source of interest). I try to see art through the eyes of a scientist, and science through the eyes of the artist. Leonardo was simply the greatest in doing just that.
Warm regards,
Bulent
