Photographer's Note
Just outside of Madaba is located historic and sacred Mt. Nebo. This is the mountain up which Moses and the Israelites climbed to get their first view of the Holy Land. Soon after seeing the Promised Land, Moses died on the mountain. A church was erected and dedicated to him on the mountain, a modern version stands today.
At the top of Mount Nebo, where a building from classical times is said to have been converted into a Christian church in the fourth century, is this ancient baptistry built in A.D. 597-598.
The room was originally a funeral chapel.
