Photographer's Note

Camels with colourful saddles at Petra, with the Royal Tombs sculpted out of the western slope of the Jabal al-Khubtha rock massif in the bg. The Tombs were built by the Nabataeans, and date from 1550 BC to 200 AD.

Chris, camels represent an essential means of transport in the desert, they can tolerate high temperatures, can stay without drinking but they drink a lot and keep reserves in their bodies. These ones wear colorful saddles, they are used to carry the tourists during excursions. The tombs sculpted in the rocky face appear majestically in the bg. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.

Hello Chris,
Goats, donkeys and now camels in your three latest photos from Petra. What on earth will come next? ;-) Lizards? The camels are nicely covered with these bright and eye-catching blankets. In the background we see the evidence this was not just any ordinary place in the desert.

Hi Chris,
Fantastic composition with camels adding so much warmth in the foreground here. In addition to being cute animals they also have here the colorful clothes as seats for travelers.
Further in the distance we see one of the Petra temples.
Great composition which combines a recognizable structure and a feeling of adventure.

Hello Chris,

There are no people in your photograph but those camels, with their brightly coloured saddle cloths, make remarkably good substitutes! They confirm the type of terrain and climate.
Whilst they command the f/g, the rising cliff, with the sculptured tombs, command the b/g.

Hello Chris, Nice view of the camels in Petra, ready to carry the tourists somewhere. My experience in Petra was quite unique. It rained heavily and it was impossible to use the gorge, it was flooded, so the police on such camels guided some hundreds of tourists over the mountains. Lovely composition with the tombs in the background.

Beautiful desert sight with the number of camels in front of the red rocks carved shrine of Petra.
Nicely allocated the picture space with part of blue sky which made a great natural contrast.

I love pictures of camels in the desert.
This is particularly attractive, with the colourful blankets on the camels’backs, which stand out well on the desert colours of the animals and of the background.
