Photographer's Note
The homes seen here were occupied until not so long ago. While the use of the natural land formations in Cappadocia has been used for thousands of years, these were fairly modern ones. The local population has moved due to the dangers with the deterioration of the area on the steep incline. Many of these caves were fitted with glass windows, wooden doors and electricity. The mass exodus began in the 1960s.

I love how the houses look almost like miniatures, like a childs sculpture in sand. beautiful textures and his phto seems to carry a sense o quiteness and tranquility.

Hey Dan... It's a shame that so many poeple have had to abandon their homes here. I like that you caught the timing with the snow. While I'm sure the scene would have been interesting however it was posted, the snow adds some contrast to the browns of the earth and homes.

Interesting place and also note. The cave homes are so different, yet they exisit in a few other places around the world (I visited some in the Loire valley in France last year). The snow really gives this a nice edge, showing the shapes very well and lightening up the scene. Well done!

Hi Dan.
The snow make it more impressive. Always a spectacular place. Good shot, with a perfect exposure. Good work.

Beautiful photo of "recent ruins" in the snow. I love how you show the way the homes fit into the mountianside.

The pictures nicely captures how barren this place must be. Good comments on 'recent ruins'. Strange to see ruins with electricity poles and a mobile phone or radio tower on top. A bit surreal, but these are the ruins of modern time.

For sure the snow add a mysterious dimension to your picture, an atmosphere of abandonment.
A very nice composition
