Van lake and mount Süphan, a photo from Van, East Anatolia

Photographer's Note

I flew from Paris to Mumbai two days ago... I woke up a few hours after take off and i saw this landscape.... Just in time to take a picture! I actually didn't know where I was, but once home, with the help of satellite pictures I managed to locate the place....
This is the southernmost part of Van lake and mount Süphan, the second highest volcano in Turkey at 4158m. It is dormant since its last eruption in 8050 BC.

J'ai pris l'avion de Paris a Mumbai il y a deux jours, et me réveillant après quelques heures, j'avais ce paysage sous les yeux... A peine le temps de prendre une photo... Je ne savais pas quel était cet endroit mais une fois a la maison, avec l'aide de photos satellite, j'ai localisé les lieux... C'est le sud du lac de Van et le mont Süphan, le deuxième volcan le plus élevé de Turquie avec une altitude de 4158m. Il est éteint depuis 8050 avant JC .

Je croyais dabord voir des sommets lointains, mais ce sont des nuages ;-)
jolie vue de ces montagnes, tu es bien haut diraut-on, ah oui, en avion...

Une image idéale pour faire de beaux rêves parmi les nuages avec vue imprenable :) sur le volcan enneigé...Je trouve qu'il y a une bonne luminosité et des couleurs agréables à regarder.

Hi Laurent,

there are many photos from this area on TE but this is the most unusual one by far! You must have flown very deep to get such a clear photo ... I often tried to make photos out of the plane - but I saw nothing but clouds :-((

Laurent c'est une chance que tu te sois réveillé à ce moment du vol, le paysage est magnifique. J'aime cette brume du second plan qui donne l'impression que la montagne est en lévitation. Le ciel est en harmonie avec l'ensemble du cliché.

Salut Laurent,
C'est rare voir photos prises en avions commerciales qui soit si bien. Les collines en fg équilibrent très bien le sommet du fond et tous ces nivelles (terre, lac, brume et montagne, nouages et ciel) résultent très bien. Une chose que m'impressionne beaucoup c'est que la montagne semble d'être au même niveau de l'avion.

Bonjour Laurent, cette image elle-même me fait penser à un rêve, tant la frontière entre le solide le liquide, et le gazeux (s’il l’on considère les nuages pour un état gazeux) sont entremêlé, pas facile en effet de décrire parfaitement ce que l’ont distingue sur cette vue, mais le résultat est fort plaisant original et pas banal, bien amicalement

Wow, amazing aerial capture, Laurent. That's why I always ask for a window seat - to get the chance of seeing such sceneries. The quality is quite good for the conditions that one have through that thick glass. Beautiful tones and lighting and well done with the research of the place.

Lorsque je prends l'avion, je m'arrange toujours pour avoir un siège près du hublot (et tant pis si je dois déranger deux personnes pour aller aux WC!) car je peux passer des heures a regarder vers le sol, si on se trouve au-dessus de la terre et qu'il n'y apas une mer de nuages. Je fais aussi beaucoup de photos.
La tienne est très réussie, avec une vue impeccable sur le lac et ce sommet enneigé. La photo m'attire d'autant plus que je vais passer dans cette région au mois d'août pour aller gravir le Mont Ararat.

Bonjour Laurent,
pour être une photo prise à travers de la fenêtre d'un avion, le résultat est impressionnant. L'image a une bonne qualité et une illumination parfaite, et la bleue dominante par la grande altitude qui contraste avec un grand effet graphique avec le paysage foncé de la terre.
Le ciel bleu, le volcan au fond avec les nuages et le brouillard à un bas niveau sur le lac ajoutent un grand intérêt esthétique à la composition.
Bien vue, et bien réalisée.

Bonjour Laurent,
une note précise et bien utile évidemment pour savoir ce que tu survolais. Un ciel qui à haute altitude parait toujours plus bleu, débarassé d'une partie de la brume.
On voit très bien que les nuages sont retenus par une couche atmosphérique très régilière.

Laurent, what a gorgeous view! I'm amazed at the quality of this out-of-the-airplane-shot. Usually the colors do not come out well, besides that the window has also some artifacts ruining the quality of the shot. I guess you openend the window (?) before havinf the shot.

As-tu ouvert ton hublot pour capter cette vue imprenable? On dirait bien, puisque tu as obtenu une image surprenamment claire. Il est vraiment impressionant de voir ces nuages au-dessus du mont Süphan et le dégradé du ciel qui les surplombe.

Malgré l’énorme distance qui te séparait de ce paysage, je trouve que les contrastes sont admirables et la combinaison des couleurs est sublime. Bravo pour ta démarche dans le but d’identifier ce paysage unique. Ça m’impressionne.

Laurent, j'ai découvert ceci dans tes "randoms", c'est vraiment un paysage superbe ! J'étais aux bords de ce lac pour une 3è fois l'été dernier, mais je ne l'ai jamais vu sous ce jour ni avec cette lumière, et la grandeur du paysage est très bien rendue ici...
Tu me donnes l'envie d'y retourner !

This is amazing, Laurent. I'm not just talking about the stunning view you managed to capture; you were apparently very lucky to have woken up at the right minute. The plane must have been flying quite low and the window was clean. The clouds look as yummy as cotton candy. Well done.

very well done. it is saddening you were only taking photos in Turkey from a transit flight nevertheless it is better than none. it is a pity the lake is not totally visible due to fog or glass of the airplane . this is a tremendous view , and the height of the mountain is explained by snow on its peak in june
