Zelve Valley II, a photo from Nevsehir, Central Anatolia

Photographer's Note

Zelve consists of three valleys arranged sequentially, which can be accessed by one entrance, forming a natural compound which established the Open-Air Museum of Zelve. The rocks of the valley are redder than the rest of Cappadocia, which gives the museum a Martian landscape air, by the capricious shapes of rocks and their natural color, in addition to the first valley is almost devoid of vegetation.

The valley has several churches, which have the peculiarity of having no wall frescoes, unlike other areas of Göreme and Cappadocia. The alleged reason is that the people of Zelve and were against images, even before the imposition of Byzantium iconoclastic tendencies. Stresses the church deer (Geyikli Kilise), whose roof is covered by a cross in relief.

Zelve remained inhabited until the mid-twentieth century, when the population was evicted by the government because of the dangers of landslides in the fragile structure of the caves, which is still weakened by the natural erosion of the area. This contunuo danger of collapse compelled the government to temporarily close some of the sights in a constant effort to maintain and preserve.

The mosque is located in Zelve the traces left by past inhabitants, who were engaged in agriculture and livestock for their livelihoods. (Wikipedia)

"Love Valley" is named for the phallic forms of fireplaces, the photo that I show now belongs to this part of the valley Zelve.

Zelve consiste en tres valles dispuestos secuencialmente, a los cuales se puede acceder por una sola entrada, formando un recinto natural donde se estableció el Museo Al Aire Libre de Zelve. Las rocas del valle son más rojizas que en el resto de Capadocia, lo cual le da al museo un aire de paisaje marciano, por las formas caprichosas de las rocas y la coloración natural de las mismas, además de que el primer valle se encuentra prácticamente desprovisto de vegetación.

El valle tiene varias iglesias, las cuales tienen la peculiaridad de no poseer frescos murales, a diferencia de Göreme y otras áreas de Capadocia. La razón supuesta es que los habitantes de Zelve ya estaban en contra de las imágenes, aún antes de que en Bizancio se impusieran las tendencias iconoclastas. Destaca la iglesia del venado (Geyikli Kilise), cuyo techo está cubierto por una cruz en relieve.

Zelve permaneció habitado hasta mediados del siglo XX, cuando la población fue desalojada por el gobierno, debido a los peligros de derrumbes en la frágil estructura de las cuevas; la cual se continuaba debilitando por la erosión natural de la zona. Este contunuo peligro de colapso lleva al gobierno a cerrar temporalmente algunas de las atracciones turísticas, en un constante esfuerzo de mantenimiento y preservación.

La mezquita localizada en Zelve es el rastro dejado por los últimos pobladores, que se dedicaban a la agricultura y la ganadería para subsistir. (Wikipedia)

El "valle del amor" es nombrado así por las formas fálicas de sus chimeneas, la foto que hoy os muestro pertenece a esta parte del valle de Zelve.

Deux belles oeuvres magnifiquement sculptées par la nature et tu as bien capté ces deux champignons de pierre. Le bel éclairage nous laisse bien voir les détails et ils sont bien mis en valeur devant un merveilleux ciel. Beau contraste de couleurs.

muy hermosa vista de estos monumentos naturales. me gusta este punto de vista bajo que hace ellos mas imponentes. bien hecho.por coincidencia en la television brasileña ahora hay una telenovela con personajes y paisajes de turquia, incluso estas.

This a well-composed and masterfully taken picture of very high quality despite the fact, that it is almost twenty years old. An excellent presentation of such an interesting and picturesque part of Turkey, where I have been yet, but hope to be in the next summer. A really unique forms of relief and beautiful colors!

This is the first time that I see these two big rocks as towers out of the earth.

How brilliant these 'mushroom' rocks are, strange formations so well captured beautifully under fabulous light. It's full of natural colours and superb detail in that very contrasty sky. It is fascinating landscape and nature wonder typical of the region. Great photograph, Congrats.

Great view of the mushrooms, I like the colors too.
I had the pleasure to visit this place but the weather was rather bad and it was an organized tour so I did not have enough freedom and enough time for photos. I definitely have to get back there again,

en este encuadre podemos apreciar las fantásticas formas fálicas de estas rocas tan peculiares, la erosión ha jugado un gran papel aquí.
La imagen es muy nítida y muy limpia, el ligero contrapicado nos regala una bonita perspectiva y un elegante contraste de las chimeneas sobre el azul del cielo, la luz es preciosa, y los colores brillan bajo la luz del sol.
Todo funciona a un gran nivel para obtener esta bella composición.
