Photographer's Note

A continuation of shots taken from the Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter) trip.

It's almost sad that our progress in evolution and urban development is indirectly proportional to the evolution of the natural world. It would be interesting to see how life would've evolved on this planet had we not been the dominant species.

The untouched reaches of the world, from the jungles of the Amazon, to the outbacks of Australia and the deserts of the Middle East give us a glimpse of what could have been. Here, unchallenged by man, some creatures grow upto double... even triple of you might see in the city.

Spiders for instance, in the Empty Quarter can grow upto the size of a grown adult hand, and this coming from first hand experience! The tracks you see in the picture were most likely made by the Cheesman Gerbil or a Rock Gecko, both of which are well adapted to the harsh desert environment.

Hi Derrick,
A very interesting point that you raise here. As to the picture, Superb colors, the POV in combination with the DOF makes this a great shot (I wish it was bigger!), too bad that the sky is colorless

HI Derrick...good photo! Yes, the desert is losing ground in the UAE! Just want to point out something...these tracks don't look like they were made by something with a long tail as there is no tail line.

This is very nice, although the sky is colorless the footprints are great. The texture of the sand and it's golden color are just pretty. I like how the little ondulations lead to a mountain, in the background.
