Caution: Falling Bricks, a photo from Ontario, Central

Photographer's Note

This is a photo taken of one of the CityPulse trucks, Downtown Toronto.

It is located on the side of the CityTV building, at Queen and John Street. At night the lights on the truck flash and the wheels spin, looking as if it just broke through the bricks.

Citytv premiered on September 28, 1972, adding an original and progressive voice to television broadcasting and immediately gained attention for its unique, information driven, 'News, Movies & Music' format. The CityPulse staff of 210 people is dedicated to bringing viewers "A day in the life of Toronto" every weekday. Rather than reciting a script from behind an anchor desk inside a sterile studio, their hosts "bring out" the stories from the areas of the newsroom where they're gathered and processed.

(Look closely and you can even see a few pigeons in the photo!)

**Still having problems trying to figure out the White Balance on the new camera.

You've maneged to crop your way to a dynamic composition of a funny motive. The light is a little dull on this one, the burned out sky and the lack of shadows does not really contribute. But well, one has to work with the conditions one's got. And given those you did a good job!

I've heard of drive-in movies but this drive-out news is something of a novelty Pamela:-)
Great "still action" composition....that newsvan certainly must have people looking up whenever they pass near this wall. I hope those dangling pieces of broken cement are well anchored?

Good shot! I'm glad you pointed out the pigeons, they really add another humourous element to the composition :-)

Technically you have a problem with the sky, and I don't honestly think it's to do with white balance - unless the colours changed dramatically when you ran AutoLevels? Would you mind posting a version of the original with only resizing as a Workshop?

Taking shots against a bright sky is always a problem, and digital doesn't have the dynamic range of the print film you're used to... Best option is to shoot at 90° to the sun, ideally with a polarising filter.

Also make use of that histogram - if you have overexposed sections use your exposure compensation and reshoot! If you're still having problems think about turning down the contrast on the camera - you should be able to bring it back up using Photoshop :-)

Dear Pamela.
Out of pure adoration for your picture, and for my city, I allowed myself to convert this picture into yet another version of WS. It is just great shot, and that white sky seems to be quite disturbing. Let's then have some fun with it, because nothing can spoil this image value, it can only add some new excitement.
