Photographer's Note
It was a bit after I took this shot that I saw this photographer at the end of the day. He came just for the vast sunset, with his tripod, advising me to carry one with me too, if I want any reasonable results. I hardly ever use mine. Perhaps my predilection for spontaneous moments like this one (which I might not be able to catch if I fussed with my tripod, yet which might be more in focus if I did;) propells me to "travel light". But I enjoyed the obvious passion with which he was setting up his equipment and his meteorological prowess with which he forecasted the approaching movement of the evening clouds he was about to shoot at the closing of that freezing winter day.

You are a real master for me... This is quite outstanding winter shot. This not only about winter. This is story about art, and about a way of life.
This composition is really great, all proportion are proper. Superb sharpnes and impressive B&W mode.

Hello Sarolta,
Such proudness should be moving him, preparing his equipment against the cold sotrmy weather but nevertheless he standed there getting his tripod steady.
A good title for this could be 'against all odds'.
Love the atmosphere and the photographers tiny little figure against this endless sky and view.
Cheers.

You know, there's a quotation of Christopher Fry:
"I travel light; as light, that is, as a man can travel who will still carry his body around because of its sentimental value."
I like it.
Of course photographer couldn't travel without his camera.Without a tripod obviously yes.
The pic is great.

Hi Sasa
This is a stunning image for its stark simplicity. Again the monochrome treatment is very appropriate for the subject and there is a good range of tones and contrast to give a strong visual impact. I feel rather cold just looking at the image!

Szia Sasa, gyonyoru kep mint mindig. Most mar atneveztem magam 'paprika-jancsi'nak (gyerekkori magyar babjatek bohoc-figura), mert neha ugy erzem hogy bolond vagyok ide kepeket tenni.
Tovabbra is sok sikert, Jancsi

Hi Sasa.
Both photos are very nice and for me is very difficult chose only one of them.
Here we can see a great view, a great and powerful sky and an unique moment.
Thanks for sharing.
(may be this photo in colour could be also interesting)

Lovely shot, Sasa. Fine choice of b&w for this scene, to enhance the play of silhouettes. Also an effective compositional choice to place the horizon line rather low versus the moderate cloud formations in the sky. I never use a tripod during daytime either - if necessary at all, a higher ISO and/or a steady hand always do a sufficient job ;o) Have a nice weekend.

It's nice how that empty patch between the clouds and the ground really makes the photographer stand out; it also gives us a sense of the direction of his shot, of his attention. Very nice...

Quite amazing how you've made the photographer so insignificent compared to the rest of the environment, as if he is the one missing the bigger picture. Flawless work once again.

Hello Sarolta,
Très bien photographié ce moment particulier, où le ciel se fait menaçant.
Ce gros nuage noir et le photographe en contre-jour sur un paysage hivernal font de cette photo un superbe spectacle.

Hi Sasa,
first of all, a beautiful note containing a couple
of interesting Latin/French words I'll have to memorize
and use in future.
Lovely capture of a photographer enjoying his solitude,
and I can't see where's the focusing problem you're
talking about... but understand what you're saying about
the tripod being an excess... though, I'll need to get one
soon as this new 70-200mm obviously doesn't like my shaky hands.
I also like the toning in this one, Sasa.
Good night,
Robi

A great shot Hobbit.....such spare marks and traces on the 'paper' but it is all there to tell this wonderful story - a perfect tonal range - he looks like an early pioneer adventurer photographer at the North Pole.......a nice story told about this moment and encounter too......

Not a fan of tripods. I have one somewhere though I couldnt tell you where. I think I lost it:) Ofcourse you and me dont shoot the type of shots where tripods are needed so we dont use them. I like the way the tripod here looks though, its such a powerful symbol of photography. Fantastic placement and the b.w is magic.

Hi Sasa, so there is more than one crazy person in Canada - going out in all weathers - in minus God know's what temperatures ! Excellent composition with the clouds bisecting the frame. Has he heard of TE do you think ? Best regards, Roberto

Yes we work on the same theme actually. This is a very beautifull picture. The shade of the photographer is nice and the contrasting sky is great.

Hi Sasa
I like you are often impressed with the way some photographers work with their tripods but also find them very encombrant and yes they do take away some of the spontaneity. For me, they are mostly useful at night. I do happen to have one now as a friend found an unwanted one in his cellar and gave it to us last week.
Anyway I really like the position of your photograper as he seems pushed down by the heavy clouds and protected by the bush behind him at the same time. Good contrasts between the snow and earth. I would have just rubbed out the fine branch in the middle.
Regards

Space. Space. And more space. And silence... How I love space and silence. Great composition Sasa! Great b&w conversion. Great exposure. The perfection is so obvious here that it leaves me with few words to comment. I wished I could be that guy facing all that white... as white like this does not exist in this corner of the world...

Just a simple silhouette of a photgrapher really, but composed so masterly. Again the vast sky is so prominent with your low horizon. I feel like I shouldnt talk too much so as not to break the silence. An artistic gem, Sasa!

This is another very good shot from you Sasa. Terrific post processing, giving it a contrasty look but not going over the top. I like all the negative space; with that much sky, we almost lose the land and he ends up almost floating to me. I wouldn't have minded if the clouds were just a little higher, but not much to be done about that. Very nice.
