Kitchen At Night, a photo from Puebla, Central Highlands

Photographer's Note

This was taken in the clinic I worked in, in the small village of Tatoxca near Zacapoaxtla in Puebla, Mexico. The atmosphere I felt in the kitchen that night surprisingly came through very well in this photograph.

The colours, textures and lighting really stood out for me. I only wish I could let you smell the food and feel the heat of the kitchen. The three women in this small kitchen of the clinic, had been working all day to make food for the arrival of the workers. In Mexico, like many other countries, a meal is served late at night and this photograph was taken at about 9.45pm on the night I arrived.

Great mood, set by the colours...A few problems caused perhaps when re-sizng the image...?

I would suggest pulling back a little here, to allow more of the kitchen details. I think you have a good eye for interesting subjects. Though this is slightly static due to the close cropping in this case...although you have some context, I think it would be really good to get a feel of what else is going on in the kitchen. Otherwise, I think women in the kitchen is always a good subject...

I love the color tone, it brings a beautiful mood for the pic. This might not be the best POV though - it makes me so curious to see her face! =)

I love your Mexico photos. The color in this one is great; almost a 1970s film quality to it. It would be better to see more of the lady's face. Also her staring straight ahead at that moments seems a little odd.
