Acapulco

Photographer's Note

La Quebrada is perhaps Acapulco's most iconic attraction, a place that has come to symbolize the city itself. Every day at 1:00 p.m., young men dive from La Quebrada's perilous and jagged cliffs, timing their jump to coincide with the incoming waves that cushion their impact and protect them from landing in the shallows. Come evening, more diving takes place.

For generations, brave young men from Acapulco have hurled themselves off the majestic cliffs jutting out over the Pacific Ocean. These fearless fellows dive into a narrow inlet where huge waves enter and crash over the rocks. The timing of their dives is crucial and must be perfectly executed due to the dangerous water conditions below.

Hi Lucas,
So amazing, not easy to avoid strike on the rocky cliff even rocks under the water. I like the colorful view, lovely green sea, yellowish cliff and sunny sky, thanks for sharing.

First, very well done on post processing in creating a fine documentary of the dive!
An amazing scene and not without danger for the divers as they seem to need to jump also in the horizontal level to get clear of the rock...

Wow!
I almost passed this photo over and then I noticed the title. This is a wonderful, scary photo. These guys seem a bit nuts as this looks really dangerous. How do they even get out of the water? What if they don't clear the cliff? Your composition is beautiful and you've merged the photos quite well. This puts a whole new meaning to "extreme sports."

Menino, isso só me lembra o filme com o Elvis. Claro que ele usou dublê, mas o efeito é impactante. Procurei em todo canto, a música do filme Fun in Acapulco. Não é do teu tempo, acho que você não a conhece, mas é muito bonita. Acabei por baixá-la do Ares.

Vejo que estás como eu, ainda com fotos de há mais de 1 ano à espera de serem publicadas. E quando já estão "triadas" e processadas até que a coisa não vai mal.

Admiro como, além de apanhar muito bem 5(!) saltadores no ar, a compo está um primor. Junte-se a luminosidade, nitidez e cores e temos uma foto de encher e deliciar o olhar.

Hi Lucas: At the first look, I was thinking that the divers are jumping in sequence until I read that this is a merge. Excellent image with very good PP in showing us the sequence of the dive. El resultado es magnífico.

Essa sequencia de fotos está incrivel Lucas! Até hoje não aprendi a fazer isso, juntas diversas fotos em uma, sem que ocorra distorções (por exemplo da possição do mar).

O cara tem que ter sangue frio para pular de uma altura dessas. Lindas cores e belo momento decissivo.

That must be one of the ultimate swimming pools made by nature, excellent action shot as it can be seen clearly how they jump into the water, congrats, that is a master stroke! Vibrant colors, high sharpness and fine DOF - there are only 2 points to give but the pictures is worth much more.

The cliff here is really impressive and the divers jumping make the image quite interesting and alive. The merging (or stitching?) went very well: the image has a fine sharpness and lovely colours. It makes me feel the thrills to see such spectacle! Well done,

I have seen the spectacle of the Acapulco Cliff Divers at La Quebrada several times. It never ceases to amaze me. Your photo is excellent, showing several divers at various states of their descent, including one who has just entered the water. That is magnificent photography.
