Photographer's Note
This scene kinda sums up the side streets of Manhattan at night for me
Pizza slice, psychic readings and masses of rubbish bags piled high
Shot in darkness on a 400 iso film pushed slightly to 500
I walked about in the dark shooting people and places on my last visit.
Its so much less drama with film and a fast lens, no drama little nose and the camera doesn't look like its worth stealing.
I do have some digital night work as well but i love the rich complex darkness of the film

Hello John,
This made me laugh. I was thinking about photographing the entrance to one of these "psychic advisors" in Manhattan. I have never gone inside one of these places, and have often wondered if I could fool them into giving me a completely bogus reading. The 99 cent pizza place is also a classic. I know the garbage waiting for pick-up is a fact of life, but I don't really care for it as the foreground of a photo. Just saying... :-) This photo definitely has a New York City vibe.

Fully agree with your note, John. I guess that you've just written your own critique :) Funny thing is you didn't mention the man in the middle and his self-assured stance; he is the center of things and seems to bring all the other elements together.
Psychic reading? Some people...
