Moon over Manhattan, a photo from New York, Northeast

Satellite Photo on Google of the place where I took this photo.

This photo was taken from the Jersey City, across the Hudson river. What we see over here is the Financial District in Manhattan, NYC.

Due to the excessive air traffic around this place I had to wait quite a while in order to get a clear sky in order not to get any light trails from the planes and helicopters, although I did get one light trail from a ferry on the river.

For another photo with some light trails taken from the same place you can check the workshop. I think we tend to capture a rare moment in the photos and since there was so much air traffic around this place, I wanted a clear sky. NYC has one of the busiest and the most complex air space in the world.

The Financial District is the neighborhood in New York City on the southernmost section of the island of Manhattan which comprises the offices and headquarters of many of the city's major financial institutions, including the New York Stock Exchange.

There are some apartments in the financial district too, although all of them should be priced more than a million dollor (my guess from the kind of people I saw living in them). Never in my life had I seen soo many rich people all buched together and living in such a small area. Lots of moolah over here.

Hi Sarju, You certainly have done an excellent job here in taking this long exposure picture. The city standing out impressively between the blue sky and blue river water here. The river wave was smoothed out with the long exposure effect. Good to have the moon as a contrast to the bright city lights. Well done.

Hi Sarju,
Night pictures are always attractive to me. Maybe because I like nights in themselves. Your blue color here is very beautiful. And, I guess you will not be surprised, I like moonlight. ;-) I think that picture could have been just a bit sharper. In fact, the one you post in the workshop is actually sharper than this one. So, I try something that I will post as a workshop. I hope it will not be a total mess as I'm not so good with post processing and the result once posted in the web. Hope also that you don't mind! To wait for doing the picture you want is a very good attitude. The one of a real photographer. Cheers!

Hi Sarju. Yes when I was there I really wanted to be able to get a night shot like this but it never worked out. As much fun as the light trails are I think I prefer this one. I like the glow on the water. Perhaps you could have sharpened it a hair more. Noise is impressively low. Very nice shot Sarju!!

The blue colors in the sky and water are the perfect night shades- not pitch black, but you still know the day is winding down. The moonlight is lovely, and I love the small streak of light under it- it looks like a shooting star, but most likely just a plane. Great city-scape; for some reason at this distance, you made the buildings seem not so imposing. Good work.

A well composed shot of the Manhattan skyline. I like the tones and hues of blue dominating the scene and the moon's slightly veiled appearance. Good reflected light on the water further enhances. An interesting contribution to TE from a different perspective. Well done, Sarju.

And you get that blue sky, just before the evening!
The POV is fabulous (I think I never went to Jersey city...) and the shot is very well taken. I loved your note about the waiting of a clear sky and river. Sometimes, we got into some funny situations, to get the perfect shot (but here, you just had a perfect sight).

The softness of the river surface is wonderful and the waiting was worth it. It enhances the view of that magnific skyline. But I also like the result of the one in ws and the ws of Claire really improved the sharpness of this one (I still get amazed with what can be done in ws...)

Hi Sarju - wow, stunningly beautiful, the waterfront skyline is enough to make a great shot, the moon adds a special touch. I just wish the clouds had cleared enough to give a sharp circular disc.

I missed this one when it came out. Nice cityscape and done before it got too dark, not always possible for me! I like the composition and the colours are quite nice. Good blue sky to add extra colour to the picture.

Very well executed Sarju, I like both photos, I hope you used a tripod...unless you have very very steady hands :-) The light is nice, the colorful soft three layers is very pleasant and contrast nicely. Great presnetation of N.Y. City, well seen.

Lovely night shot Sarju, taken early enough to have the blue sky. I love the way long exposure smooths water into a silky sheen. I looked at your WS with the plane trails and agree they don't add anything to the composition ( I had expected them to look better )Excellent note too

Hi Sarju. I also like the WS; quite interesting result you get with the long exposure time. The moon is certainly the eyecatcher in the shot, otherwise groundlevel is carefully balanced. Nice colours, maybee ad a little sharpening.

Hi Sarju,
I know it's difficult to take photos at night in NY, and your WS shows one of the problems, the other one being the extraordinary amount of polluting light sources to be found there. You avoided that one choosing here a remote location and it works well, the moon shining over the city is very nice too. Claire gave you the final polishing step, nothing to add, just enjoy :-)

A really good shot of the skyline of New-York. I love the moon in the frame, it adds a lot to the composition. I have never been to NY city, but I will certainly go one day. It's such a great place for photography.

Hey Sarju;

My appologies for not stopping by in a while. I've been quite busy over the past month with my brothers wedding (me, being the best man and all)- that I have neglected my TE reposnibilities- hahaha....

Nice to see another shot of NY, but it does somewhat make me sad, not being able to see those two magnificent towers anymore.

A like the exposure you managed here, as you were able to capture some of the remaining light in the sky while also getting a good exposure of the city.

La nuit devait être bien noire pour une pose de 15 secondes et une ouverture de 5,6. C'est vrai qu'on se croirait presque en plein jour.
La photo est très belle et l'eau paraît figée.

Hey Sarju, excellent photo. I was just in the same site you must have taken this photo from. I unfortuatley forgot to pack my tripod, again, so I had to do with the hotel room balcony. I love your shot. Did you do something the get the blue in the shot? My shots all turn out natural colors. I think the sharpness is excellent. Great job and keep up the good work!
